lmao I know it’s lol pcgamer, but I am starting to think that site is pro playstation, which is weird if you’re a site created for PC gamers. This is actually an insane headline when you know that’s not the case for a comparable card to the PS5 pro, and this site also made the be nicer to Concord article and other stuff. However, when it’s Microsoft they’re quick to shit on them when they’re one of the few publishers bringing all of their games to PC
Yep. I saw Alex talking about this the other day. How some folks love to mention a certain GPU, a GPU that sets you back 1400 bucks or so but it isn’t even a GPU for gaming, it’s for blender and other stuff like that. It just shows folks have no idea what they are talking about.
Yep they love to kick Xbox - this article is completely unrelated to Xbox but contains this phrase:
“With massive companies like Microsoft slurping up every game developer known to man, I’m worried our digital libraries are only going to continue to crumble in all the places that aren’t Steam”
This is how propaganda works, and this is a perfect example of the language usage point I’ve made repeatedly and the completely irrelevant brand drive-bys we constantly see.
Personally, the entire debate/argument around PS5 Pro is fucking stupid.
Did people really expect it to be $500 or some shit? Even $600 more than anything was wishful thinking. PC IS more expensive but you get better shit and that better shit doesn’t come cheap.
Gamers in general better prepare themselves for more expensive consoles at launch with next gen Xbox and PlayStation 6. I’m expecting both to be $800 with their respective Portable/handhelds being $500.
People should really start preparing themselves for higher prices because when Microsoft is selling you an Xbox Series X with the same specs but an extra 1TB of SSD storage space and some green sparkles while Sony is selling you a PS5 Pro with an extra 1TB of SSD storage space and a better GPU, yeah, everyone better prepare themselves for higher prices.
Related side note - going with $500 for the high end better model for Nintendo Switch 2 or whatever they end up calling it.
I think for a lot of people it represents a future where they are completely priced out of console gaming, especially without future price drops being a thing.
I understand why people are worried and it just makes the case that Microsoft’s Xbox Series strategy should be the standard going forward.
People really need to stop comparing this to PCs, it’s idiotic
Besides, the entire point of consoles is to have a relatively low cost entry to games, once you start reaching these prices you lose your main point of existing
I think going forward if these companies don’t have a low cost option for their consoles next gen, they are doomed
If Xbox has a hybrid next gen I’d happily pay a lot for it, as it’s OK it getting closer to PC costs if it’s going to give a similar experience.
The base models would need to be lower though yes - and if Sony stick to one model at release and a later Pro, their initial model has to be under $600 else it’ll sell like crap.
The whales would buy it, but it would struggle to take market share from the PS4 and PS5, resulting in games being cross-gen for even longer and thus giving casual players even less reason to upgrade…
Agree with Jason here. A $700 console where the value proposition is “It plays your PS4 games with a barely perceptible level of increase in background detail” is ridiculous. We’re just now getting to the point where most games no longer have Xbox One/PS4 versions, and honestly, it often feels like that’s for reasons of the market rather than the fact that a game fundamentally couldn’t be done on last-gen consoles.
Yeah. This chasing of tech improvements is quite frankly dumb. It’s why I ran away from PC gaming, I do not care about it. When I make a list of reasons why I play video games, muh graphics and muh frames etc. are so far down it’s silly.
Yeah this things reeks of something that just doesn’t need to exist
Certainly not at these kind of prices, it’s a good example of everything that’s wrong with the AAA industry right now
Agreed
While I certainly don’t want to be stuck with hardware as shitty as a Switch for example, not everything needs to be bleeding edge tech for slightly better graphics
The fact that a little box like the Series S is capable of pulling of things like Hellblade or Flight Sim should show that we don’t need to keep trying to push graphics tech endlessly on orverpicd hardware
Yep that Last of Us comparison, the Fidelity mode on the base PS5 looks better to me - the grass etc, ok maybe the backpack looks better on the Pro.
The only difference is the Pro is 60FPS, the base Fidelity mode is 30FPS.
But that means there’s still some sacrifices to reach 60FPS, so it’s not purely “graphics mode at 60FPS” - and for someone like me who was tempted by a Pro (given I’ve no PS5) but can’t see the difference between 30FPS and 60, it feels like a massive waste of money, particularly if they don’t offer improved Fidelity modes on all games in addition to better Performance
Exactly! A more balanced approach to both hardware and software is needed. Not only does games cost way too much to develop (which we will have to pay for), they take forever to develop. Some studios dropping one game per generation? I mean, c’mon.
Apparently even the download for existing owners option was finally removed from that store.
Also they claim it can’t happen much on Steam but I’ve a load of old Settlers games that were completely removed from Steam so I can’t redownload them despite owning them.
