Man, Metroid Prime remastered is probably one of the best looking games I’ve seen… I need more games that do that specific kind of texturing and lighting to makes things that look incredible and clean and perform smooth on even low-end hardware.
Agreed - Sony shut the studio after Concord and the media are “it’s sad but totally understandable”.
They take just as big potshots at Redfall on release, but when that studio is shut it’s big bad Microsoft - I’m still not happy about it or Tango as obviously I liked them and would prefer gaming companies made decisions on passion not money, but we live in the real world where unfortunately that happens.
But it’s not treated the same by the media, there’s double standards definitely
Definitely I’m all for scrutinizing MS for closing the studios and layoffs, it’s just the lack of same energy that’s a problem. Sony closed down a more prestigious historical studio (Japan) even before layoff and closures were the industry norm, and did not receive anywhere near the same scrutiny, and that was a studio those journos loved (as did I). All those decisions made for studios I like and love, I can understand why (money) and hate and scrutinize at the same time, whoever does them. Not just when one does them.
I think there’s even a conversation about Ubisoft here, in a time where everyone’s laying off, they keep as many people employed and working still, even despite struggles, and they don’t get even that bit of recognition for doing what is relatively a good thing looking at the industry. This tells me those people don’t really care for devs and employees, if we’re being honest. Just narratives for platforms and companies they like or hate.
Lol been waiting for the Steam autumn sale to pick up some PC only games I want (that annoyingly aren’t available on any other store or key seller).
All the games in my wishlist are on offer, apart from one I want the most lol - it’s been half price the last 6 major Steam sales over the past 18 months, the first one I’m paying attention and it doesn’t go on offer grr lol.
Got to hope it’s in the Winter Sale now - swear I’m cursed!
Does make me wish our system didn’t rely on sales to make people fear missing out and jump on a purchase - it doesn’t really work as those who want the game full price will buy it then, and those willing to wait for a discount will wait for a sale.
Just give us a set price as we end up waiting for sales, and if we miss it / payday is after the end date etc then no one’s going to buy it full price afterwards, they’re just pissed they missed the good price.
A few devs do it, permanently reducing the price after a certain periods of time rather than doing time-limited sales that just annoy people who miss out / would prefer not to have to wait for one
Yep I’ve noticed bashing Ubisoft has become a favourite in the gaming and anti-social medias - there’s genuine reasons to scrutinise them like the allegations around behaviour in the workplace, but it seems like they’re more wanting to go after it for being liberal / modern, being European (particularly French) and for doing big open world games.
Many other devs do big open worlds too, and clearly there’s a market for it as their new AC games have done really well - they’re an enjoyable brain-off chill out and explore set of games, and I like them.
And yep I like the fact Ubisoft are so big, struggling at times but rather than massive layoffs like other publishers do, being French they keep that to a minimum and instead keep their devs employed
Yep. I talked to someone who was working at Ubisoft at the time years ago, and he said they always try to keep people employed, even if they have no available projects or roles, they try to give people something to do to keep employed. Even failed projects, they don’t layoff the teams and just try to shift them to other projects as much as possible. That’s why their employee count is huge.
It’s definitely an admirable approach and something American / non-Ubi European publishers could learn a thing from
All of the usual grifters congregating to the post as expected.
People who apparently hate big corporations unironically cuddling Elon and his corporations, the lack of awareness is mind boggling.
The only thing good that can come of this is Elon having to deal with angry gamers tweeting at him when the game comes out and is dogshit.
Elon Musk looks at games and decides what we need are… More ideologically compromised billionaires. Sure thing, chum.
Oh, yeah, I was aware of that. I also unsubbed after the Hellblade II review and also let him know why. So that’s good that there were at least two of us.
I was more referring to the “anti-bias expert” comment you made. It seemed like a joke, but then I wasn’t sure so I thought I’d check.
And he still got that interview with Phil Spencer.
What did he say in HB2 review? I wanted to check it out but it’s paywalled, though in the available paragraph he talks about how would he ignore the context around a piece of work, and that he contacted expert game reviewers to for advice on that, I’m assuming he wanted to review the game without the MS studio closure affecting his review
This is one reason why they need their own handheld. They’ve been on this battle since 2020. Google is going to like Apple keep this out of reach for as long as possible which could be many more years. This is one time I wish they still had the windows phone.
Let’s move on, thank ya.
Yeah. I had fun getting some relatively simple scripts out of handful of prompts that would otherwise take way longer to type out manually, while checking docs, etc. Can’t wait to try a harder problem with it.
