Persona grew because of multiplatform releases and FF shrunk because of single platform exclusivity. If FF returns to day one multiplatform releases it could grow back to its peak and more.

Yeah that’s not true though; FF13’s entire trilogy was on multiple platforms from day one and still didn’t reach half of what Persona 5 sold. Let’s not revise history please.

For the record, FFXIII is one of my personal favorites (easily in the top 6, in my rankings), so I’m not knocking the games. Just pointing out facts.

What? I’m just saying that Persona grew doing the obvious thing, and FF shrunk doing the stupid thing, FF can grow back to its own peak (7? or 15? I don’t remember) if they commit to multiplatform. I wasn’t comparing numbers between the games, just strategy.

Watch out or better yet avoid the usual places because it’s gonna be a shit show. Some PS players thought Xbox would keep parity no matter what console. Nope.

Sure, I suppose I can get that. There’s still a barrier, as you have to visit the profile to see the posts, they won’t just show up in your feed, but I guess there’s now one less hoop to jump through compared to before.

It was expected wasn’t it? Thought Sony were insisting on Pro enhancements for all major games releasing on PlayStation after a certain date - and given they control the licencing of PS games they can force it (as I assume not complying and so not releasing on PlayStation would put Xbox in breach of the CoD agreements they used to get past the FTC, CMA etc).

It’s unfortunate but PS players have to pay full price for it rather than get it on Game Pass, so I wouldn’t say they’re winning (particularly if they’ve shelled out Ā£700 / €800 for the Pro!)

It looks like I’ll be doing another Goat Simulator playthrough with my daughter this November :stuck_out_tongue:.

Does anyone else get really fed up by a lack of player agency in some games?

Worse, it often seems to be some of the most fĆŖted games that annoy me the most.

I know it’s needed sometimes to steer the plot, but when either the story implies you have some control you don’t actually have, or make you / your character do something completely against your playstyle in does my head in.

Classic example is Ghost of Tsushima - it makes it sound like how many times you assassinate compared to honourable stand offs / combat will impact your standing particularly with your uncle, so you may choose (unless there’s hostages at risk or the game forces it) to take more the samurai approach.

However it’s complete bullshit - it counts for nothing and the story never changes regardless of your decisions (apart from a very minor thing at the end).

In particular, when it makes you poison the Mongols in Castle Shimura even though you may have avoided using poison or doing missions related to it beyond the forced one - and in doing so forever destroy your relationship with your uncle - when you’re supposedly a one man army who’d be up for taking on the entire garrison is infuriating as Shimura wasn’t the only one disappointed in Jin, I was too as it was completely against my own ā€œcodeā€.

It’s why I love RPGs and imm sims - I want to play my character as if I’m them, I don’t mind flaws but I don’t want to be made to hate my character or the ending / game (it’s also happening a bit in TV shows, making the star so irredeemable and awful I struggle to connect to them and kinda wish they’d die alongside the enemy).

Might be my autism making me see things more black and white, or the fact I play games to relax meaning I generally want a happier ending / at least one I’ve earned - I don’t mind a sad ending if it’s a good send off (Banishers take a bow).

Anyone else have any games that have made them feel helpless / lacking agency and annoyed them? I’m thinking in particular the action / adventure genre is a big one for it, but sometimes RPGs do it too…

(May help me create a list of games to avoid lol, as I really hate getting invested in a game only for it to screw me and leave me annoyed not satisfied by the ending!)

ā€œYou need people like me.ā€ - CoD maybe

Edit: Odd how Destiny 2, PS IP, not listed in PS5 playlist.

ā€œYou need people like me.ā€ -Xbox and PC maybe

You’re far from the only one, and it’s those exact limitations or things that clearly indicate I’m ā€œjust playing a gameā€ are why so many Sony games don’t appeal to me. Take Horizon; after playing AC for almost two decades, I’m shocked at how restrictive Horizon’s movement feels to me and how clearly-climbable elements simply aren’t. Those types of things are littered in games, but especially Sony’s and I know it’s a direct result of the fidelity and nearly-corridor-shooter style of their game flows.

Yep I didn’t finish Ghost first time round so thought it was actually less like the usual PlayStation ā€œlack of agencyā€ games (the misery simulators in particular) but now having completed it on PC I’m realising it falls into the same traps and isn’t at all an RPG.

It’s a big part of why I was glad Xbox bought Obsidian and Bethesda - I love RPGs for actually respecting my decisions so was happy they’ll be on Game Pass and stopped from being exclusive.
