The point of Xbox dual is for gain Steam users?
I think itâs more to gain a younger audience that are going for PC and/or Mobile over consoles.
So I cant use logic to assess what is going on? FTC leaks were very helpful, I AM not assuming anything this is pĂșblic info, even MS talked about it, I dont know why I shouldnt BE able to discuss this matter if they already revealed some of their intricacies of licensing and some of that policies.
No ? So Steam never had a delisted game because of licensing complications? Why should they made a hybrid ? A hybrid of what? You dont even make sense.
Letâs keep it civil please folks. For what itâs worth, I donât think dual boot is quite the right term. But Iâm sure weâll see soon enough.
I donât think Phil would be talking about something that is literally not possible⊠so I think heâs probably had discussions with their legal and back end teams to discuss feasibility.
This June perhaps or more like later than that? They did tease exciting stuff regarding hardware and like you said in your piece, it likely isnât about the new digital X. And if they were to already start talking next gen later this year, 2026 really isnât so farfetched anymore.
I think they should focus on games in June, they wonât be able to convey what they need to for their next gen plans in the few minutes itâd get at the showcase. They could do something separately in the future focused on it.
Agreed, I think they should keep showcases for games, but maybe have an event to talk about their next console if theyâre doing something bold
True!
Yes, Sony could pull out of steam entirely. They could also burn down their HQ. Both would be dumb. They have 0 means to pull it from people using a specific PC.
A hybrid PC/ console, what the whole conversation is about
Good point, I think there is no real need for dual boot. On Xbox One and Series consoles you already have two different VM environments (the game VM and the app VM) even running in parallel. And so far no security leak happened which is no small feat.
I think we are forgetting all playstation games release on the Epic store as well and not just Steam. I also think it would make more sense for Sony just to pull or delist the games from this stores rather than ask the stores to block them on certain hardware. To me itâs just not a good outlook and who knows Sony could also adopt this idea of storefronts on their next console. Iâd rather there is just one box with everybodyâs storefront, competition between the stores I think is better for all.
Pulling your games from Steam is effectively pulling out of PC. They will (likely) create their own store and itâll have some benefits like Microsoftâs does (cross save, maybe play anywhere, etc.) but that would surely live alongside Steam not replace it. Unless they want to see their sales drop significantly.
Why would they want to do that if they are already profitable? it is not like they are losing money, maybe they arent doing as much as they would need to please shareholders nowadays but their first party line up also reflects that and console market hĂĄs grown bigger than PC market in the last Six years. They have all the means to block releases though they are the publisher the manufacturer and the distributor most of the Times. They already have PlayStation portal and there is demand for that product.
That probably sounded like a tease more than you intended lol Care to elaborate or at least give your opinion on how this Will be?
Pretty sure adding non-Xbox Store games to the Xbox app is on Microsoftâs to do list, donât know why PC games wouldnât simply be integrated into the launcher cleanly and sit alongside the native Xbox games.
The magic would happen once you launched the game.
requires publisher approval, and we all know how tough licensing becomes
If they make their own store they might pull their games from Steam and they could use their partnership with some of the big Japanese and Asian developers could draw a number of big games to their store as maybe temporary or time exclusives, they would certainly fair better than the Epic game store.
Not sure they would - Fortnite is the biggest game in the world according to many of the recently released âmost playedâ lists and that hasnât been able to move the dial on the Epic Games Store, and neither has tonnes of free games being given out.
PC players hate all the extra launchers theyâve been made to use, GoG gets a pass as itâs anti-DRM and itch.io gets one for being indie, but even those have hardly any traffic compared to the behemoth that is Steam.
According to Statista, 75% of all PC game downloads were from Steam - that means all the other PC stores combined only have a quarter of the share, and thatâs the Xbox / Microsoft PC store, itch.io, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, UPlay, EAPlay and the launcher Bethesda had, plus so many more.
Honestly, I think it would take a cabal of major publishers coming together to offer GTA6, PS games, Fortnite, EA games particularly the sports ones and probably Microsoft with CoD to have a chance - and thatâs never going to happen, due to greed / the demands each would have for their cut, the potential for them to fall foul of cartel / competition laws and as many PC gamers may hold out for them to return to SteamâŠ
