Xbox Game Studios |OT8| Leaving The Drought Behind And Heading For Starfield

Hmm. So tell me if I’m crazy guys. Microsoft seems to be investing a lot in RTS games. We got worlds edge making AOE, project Indus/ Oxide games, BlackBird Interactive (former Relic founders) we think are making an RTS game for Xbox. And someone in the Zenimax family is now making an RTS as well. Do you guys think that maybe Xbox isn’t going after Sega? A big part of Segas value (aside from the Japan branch) is their Sega Europe division that has some of the best RTS developers in the world. But with MS having so much RTS content in the works, do you think MS has moved on from a Sega acquisition? Am I overthinking it?

I would say you are, though it does sound rude, so pardon me. Plus, we don’t know if they are even pursuing for Sega. It’s only our dream. Partnership is good enough for now. Maybe they will speak more down the road, but right now, it’s fine. When it comes to RTS, it’s just the case of the devs’ desire to make. It’s like FPS, it just happens to be the case

Probably more coincidence. Microsoft needs more PC content and RTS is just an obvious market for PC focused games, plus they seem to be hands off on the type of projects their internal teams are working on so if any are making an RTS it’s probably cause they wanted to (Zenimax’s might even have been in the works before the acquisition cleared). Hell, Blizzard have apparently been itching to make Warcraft 4 for years and might finally get to if Microsoft just gives them the freedom to do it, that’s another RTS right there. As for Sega any theoretical interest in them would be more bolstered by their addition to their PC game pass content over being RTS specific.
Though who knows, maybe Phil is just a huge fan of RTS games and this has been his end game the whole time.

Yeah, you’re over thinking it. I dunno if Xbox is going after Sega or not, but they are going to make the games they want to make regardless.

What exactly is Colin going to roast Gaz on? Gaz isn’t the one who routinely has bad takes and spreads misinformation like Sacred Symbols does. He’s absolutely been clamoring to debate Colin while Colin constantly ducks him.

Colin doesn’t like the idea of MS buying publishers, while also simultaneously not liking the idea of MS buying studios like Double Fine and Ninja Theory …all while simultaneously cheering FF16 Playstation exclusivity.

So MS shouldn’t buy publishers, shouldn’t buy smaller developers, MS buying is bad for creativity despite how much better games like Psychonauts 2 and Wasteland 3 turned out because of MS involvement in the game., buying timed exclusivity is fine though and not bad for creativity. Yeah this all sounds like it’s coming from a place of good faith.

You can also call Sacred Symbols out on the fact that they regularly spread misinformation (Deathloop being permanently exclusive, MS having nothing to do with Psychonauts 2, massively distorting what Phil’s “Legacy” comments mean)

You defend Colin as much as you’d like but the fact of the matter is the guy regularly and consistently has bad takes, spreads misinformation and is overall massively biased toward Sony/Playstation despite trying his hardest to pretend otherwise.

Really happy to hear a new RTS coming from Zenimax and there are some cool possibilities:

  1. Halo wars 3;

  2. the Elder scroll RTS: It could be similar to LOTR;

  3. Startfield RTS

We should consider this: RTS Is one of the main genre played on PC and PC gaming Is much bigger than both Consoles. MS wants the Monopoly on this genre because It will be a sure house for milions of RTS players.

Jez said in one of its podcast: Xbox wanna be the world of the RTS.

And for some of you who are worried about console: they are coming also for this platform. AOE 4 is planned for this year.

Try them. They are very funny. I could suggest you : Age of Empires 1-3 definitive edition, AOM (the best campaigns) and Battle for the Middle earth. Also Total war saga is incredibile.

That’s said to be a 4X game, hopefully of the Civ variety. Damn remember how I got addicted like crazy to Civ5.

The beauty of Sea of Thieves.

Gaming needs more Rare games.

It’s understandable they don’t want it but I wish they would expand a bit so they can have at least 3 or 4 teams simultaneously (though I guess Playground is already saturating the hiring market in the UK, I checked and there are still 130 job offers on their website lol. Rare has 22.)

You sound like Colin’s #1 fan. You know so much about him.

Yeah. If Everwild is 2024 or beyond, then it’ll be a whole decade with only ONE game being SoT.

Just realized that Q1 2023 is sure to have something 1st party coming to Xbox :booty:

That’s next to their big new MMO? Could this possibly be a counterpart to Starfield? Like Fallout Shelter was ?

Same here. The only things I can truly appreciate are games like Commandos, Desperados and Shadow Tactics. I think they call that genre realtime tactics.

But a C&C, Halo Wars, Civ, all those…not for me.

I can’t imagine a truly big studio being on this. Can’t imagine Arkane being on this, or ID. Far as we know all the studios are busy on games already. But we haven’t heard much about Roundhouse and isn’t there another studio that you don’t hear too much about?

I mean rts doesn’t have to mean age of empires like. I’m into all sorts of strategy so I’m open to it. Something like they are billions or a type of city builder/defender in the fallout universe would be cool. Having to manage your economy and fighting against enemy factions or something akin to that sounds great to me. I’m excited.
