Downgraded or not, Forza Horizon 5 is still a 10/10 in visuals on Xbox One so imagine Series X.
Oof. Getting Watch_Dogs / The Witcher 3 vibes here…

You go back, Jack, do it again, wheel turnin’ 'round and 'round
where have you seen FH5 on Xbox One?
I haven’t but I played Forza Horizon 3 in 2016 on Xbox One S and that was a 10/10 in visuals so I don’t see why Forza Horizon 5 would be any less than a 10/10.
fair enough. I guess given the system its on it may be top tier in comparison to other games on the same system.
Thought it was pretty cool to see that the former Zenimax studios are currently hiring for 261 positions. This is a big up tick. They had been hovering around 200 positions for months.
I hope that number keeps surging, I initially said that I wanted to see them add about 1k new employees total to those studios.
Also got the first time Roundhouse is hiring for a position, though it’s just an office manager. Nonetheless it’s good to see
I hope that ZOS invest more into play testing. The latest ESO patch is horrible. Constant crashing on random occasion.

Edit: forgot to mentioning that they still didn’t fix the constant resetting of the HDR mode and the map zoom.
There is no downgrade in graphical fidelity, not to my eye, if anything they have improved it further.
They did show the PC version in the initial reveal while they have been showing the Xbox Series X version in their streams since. Or at least that is my inference, since the E3 reveal was 60fps, while in the streams where they have confirmed it’s running on Series X it is 30fps, and the level of graphical fidelity seems to be identical across the two.
I still want them to show the 60fps mode as that is what I will be playing.
Well, what I really want them to do is announce that they will offer both a Performance – Fidelity and a Performance – Resolution mode.
I would always rather they dropped the resolution and kept the fidelity to hit 60fps. Kind of disappointed that they have confirmed that they are keeping the resolution and dropping the fidelity instead. A choice would be good.
Oh I ignore those threads.
The account I posted a picture from often makes comparison pics, most of the time different games but with a similar situation and area and for some reason he receives very few comments, probably for the better because as soon as the trolls arrive…
Hoo boy, I can’t go back to 30fps anymore, too many games I’ve played in 60 now. Three options would actually be great. One with 4K/30fps with max fidelity, one with dynamic 4K/60fps with max fidelity and one with dynamic 4K/60fps with lesser fidelity.
I wish XSX could run the game with the full native 4k, 60fps and Max fidelity but it seems it’s too demanding. So they haven’t shown performance mode yet? I’m hoping it’s not a huge difference, otherwise I might opt for 30fps after all.
Agree, with the following small niggle:
There would be no point calling the full fidelity/lower res version ‘dynamic 4k’ as it would never hit that metric (not like you can pan up and look at the sky in a racing game, which is the usual ‘get out of jail free’ card devs use when calling a game that never hits 4k ‘dynamic 4k’).
Better just be transparent and say:
- Quality mode - 4k, high fidelity, 30fps
- Performance Resolution mode - 4k, lower fidelity, 60fps
- Performance Fidelity mode - 1440p, high fidelity, 60fps
Oh yeah, 1440p I would be fine with but lower and I start to notice it. As small as the difference in Psychonauts 2 was I noticed the slightly softer image, in the Tales demo too.
But I didn’t know they showed XSX off in those weekly videos. Judging by the tweet it’s on par with PC, but difference being it’s 30fps when they show XSX.
What they have showed on the Series X definitely looks like a 1:1 match for what they showed at the reveal (which I assume was a high-end PC) in terms of resolution and graphical fidelity. It was just 30fps while the reveal was 60fps.
For me, there is a point of diminishing returns in resolution.
Going from 720p to 900p is a massive gain. From 900p to 1080p is clearly notable. Once you get to 1080p, even on a UHD display, it basically looks acceptable, a bit too soft perhaps, but not bad.
I think the tipping point is 1440p – the image looks sharp and at normal viewing distance, it’s kind of enough.
Yes, the image will get crisper as you increase resolution and full 4k looks wonderfully sharp and pingy. But is it worth reducing graphical settings to hit that mark? For me a resounding no.
What good is a 2160p gameworld if the shadows are so low resolution and poor quality that they look like a jagged smear of charcoal clumsily overlaid on top of it? Or screen space reflections are pixelated and updating at half the frame rate? Reduced vegetation, worse lighting, lower geometry detail… all these sacrifices developers make to hit a higher resolution when the image quality gain above 1440p is so small.
I think I’m overly sensitive to these things, particularly the shadows issue. It always seems to be the first thing devs will crank down to optimise for consoles, but has one of the biggest impacts on the immersion of the game world for me.
Options are always the best thing. I’m going to play FH5 at 60fps. No way am I touching a 30fps mode. I just want to play it at the graphical splendour we’ve been shown, and don’t care if the image is a bit softer to get that.
Yeah I got ya on the shadows bit, that stuff stands out, just like aliasing. But that should be a thing of the past now.
As for resolution, I noticed that it really depends on viewing distance. Back when my viewing distance was 3 to 4m from the TV I couldn’t notice the difference at all between resolution and performance mode in Witcher 3. But now that the distance is 1.5 to 2.5m I immediately notice it.
What I’m gonna do is just start playing with the settings they have put it at, before I start to switch modes.
I would love to have Insomniac’s performance RT mode in every game . Its has the perfect settings for me .
Yeah that would be great.
Ever since the launch of the XSX we’ve been spoilt with all these great 60fps experiences and it’s grating to go back. Noticed that the other day when I played some RDR2. 60fps has become the new normal in a relatively short time. But I have faith in PG that the performance mode will be worth it.
same . 60 FPS > everything else for me .
This. Performance RT mode is great. Games look amazing, plays at 60fps and has Ray Tracing. Can’t go wrong.
I’d love to have this in FH5 and all the other studios , when possible. But maybe Insomniac’s engine is just really good for it?
