Yep just made a video on it
Nothing crazy came out of this interview. But one thing I found interesting was how apparently they let rare kinda control their legacy IP. Obviously, Phil has to sign off on it but it sounds like rare has a lot of control still over the IP they developed.
Did they talk about achievements at all? I asked Greg on twitter to ask him for updates but he never responded.
Phil mentioned he likes playing games for achievements but it wasnât brought up beyond that.
Kind of a bummer. I feel like nobody at Xbox even acknowledges them anymore.
It seems like one of those things they probably know about but itâs always a middling priority. So something is always a little bit more important.
Sure. I just feel like a few small things could go a long way. But Iâm not a programmer or engineer so I have no idea how much work even the smallest change is.
That would mean gears 6 has about the same development time as gears ultimate, 4, and 5 combined.
I like your consistency. Never change!
I think the series gets a break. TC need to learn the new engine, so first theyll make a something experimental. I think this will be in the Gears world.
Now that Phil has done kinda funny and unlocked recently I hope he goes on Defining Duke next. I know he prolly wonât go near a last stand media property because of Colin but itâs a darn shame, the DD show is putting in the work now that lord cog is on the show and I would love to hear Phil talk to cog and Matty.
Not the biggest fan of Colin but Matt and Cog are awesome. Insane chemistry for only being 2 episodes in.
Matt would ask some great questions too, itâs a shame it probably wonât happen.
Ya itâs a real bummer. Itâs never talked about and even on the dash itâs not right Iâm front. I donât think they care for it as well which is really disappointing
I donât get why he is going on these shows like unlocked and kinda funny when they either havenât been pro Xbox or like Ryan is just an idiot. Why not go onto a iron lords or Xbox era
I wouldnât call Ryan an idiot, heâs just got some rather⌠flavourful takes, but he does know a decent bit.
Regardless, to answer your question, itâs primarily due to reach. While Phil Spencer himself is obviously a big draw, Kinda Funny has 272k subs and gets anywhere from 10-30k views per daily podcast, more for bigger ones.
Podcast Unlocked brings in around 30-50k, and got 100k for Phil and has a subscriber base on their channel (IGN Games) of 500k.
I love the XboxEra podcast a ton, itâs my favorite one, but the most listened episode on YouTube comes in at 10k. Iron Lordsâ at 20k. They both average lower but are growing.
If anything, I think the bigger question for now is why we havenât seen him on Xbox Two besides Rand and Jezâs aversion to guests. Same goes for Coltâs new XNC show. They pull in higher numbers than most of Unlocked and Kinda Funny.
Granted, all of this needs to be said that I donât know the Spotify/Apple Podcast numbers. They could be big difference makers for Kinda Funny and Unlocked. Conversely, they could be even greater equalizers for Colt and Jez/Rand and make XboxEra and Iron Lords far bigger than they appear on the surface level. Idk.
Moral of the story is share XboxEra and Iron Lords with friends so they can get bigger, because they are worth it.
Because KF and IGN are mainstream, PR friendly and vanilla.

Mobile gamesâŚ
Are you really going to be thinking that if the money from those games support Microsoft to create more teams that could get lets say Elder Scrolls 6 out a couple years earlier. People shouldnât think in those archaic ways. Xbox is going to come out with games that are on mobile that could be more popular than Halo, Gears, Forza, Elder Scrolls, Fallout and DOOM and they could even make more money than all of them too. More money = more games simple as that and I obviously donât mean things like Gears 6 PC and console port are being cancelled to make a BR mobile game with gotchas.

That would be nothing but good news. Just as long as these big, amazing quality games keep coming itâs ok with me. I am so glad we are seeing a hugely different MS/Xbox now with all these top quality games in development but they might not make sales like a mobile game does or something like a equivalent of Fortnite. And I donât want Xbox to eventually focus more/mostly on that, I know that sounds very drastic but still.
We are seeing changes happening now in the gaming industry Iâm not exactly thrilled about. Ubi now making AC a platform, odd when the franchise was already live service and very popular. And these rumors about GTA having a evolving map and live service stuff⌠itâs change and change can be scary, not necessarily bad. But at the same time Iâm like, for something like GTA it isnât necessary, neither AC. I kinda digressed here, but Iâm just very happy MS is bothering with bringing top quality content that isnât all live service or mobile.
I feel like that makes some of things he says even worse
As in he knows better, but still says them anyway
