I think Gears 6 is a lock for 2023. The Coalition doesn’t fuck around.
my only thought is if gears games were every 3 years out of need (due to MS having very few first party releases)
if the coalition wants more time, MS have plenty of other studios to cover gears taking longer now
But aren’t they doing that now with the smaller project to test out UE5? And it could be possible this new game could become a new franchise for them to work on.
I hope JD died honestly, he’s pretty likeable(to me) but his death would hit Marcus the hardest. And I think it also has the best potential for story telling with the new cast.
They’re literally developing this new small scale project to familiarise themselves with UE5… and the internal release date is slated for 2023.
We won’t be seeing Gears 6 until late 2024 at least.
I did not know I could hate something so much.
I think they will get more time since there is less pressure to release stuff fast now with all the studios at Xbox. That’s +1 year. Then we have COVID, another +1 year and the little UE5-project is also +1 year. That would give us Gears of War 6 in… 2025.
Idk Im kinda feeling 2028 right now
We are all @Hindle now!
Need Hindle to give us a date on this small scale Coalition game.
Late 2023 to early 2024.
I think we might see Gears 6 next year. I highly doubt it’ll release in 2022 though.
But by 2023 I expect it to release, not counting delays. Get the game out, finish the trilogy, then take your time working on whatever you want to do next.
Also (Gears 5 spoilers) I’m sorry, but JD is dead. It makes the most sense narratively, it also concludes his redemption arc. It also ends the Fenix line, which tbh just looks like a whole lot of suffering. Del has a role as the next budding scientist as well.
The cutscene afterwards too, so well done.
The decision is one of the worst thing Gears has done tbh. No stones to pick a decision so they leave it to the player.
As much as I like Del I cant pick him over JD because of Marcus.
I need to see how they continue onwards from the decision. Imo, they need to make an internal choice and stick with it. Regulating both characters to be side characters that don’t do anything of importance in the next game would suck.
That’s what happened in my game so yeah, it’s canon
2023 seems too early with COVID, new engine etc. but I wouldn’t mind. Maybe… moving more to a platform where MP is more its own thing, and campaigns can come out faster?
As much as I’d like Gears 6 to really utilize UE5, I’m not sure if the entire game would be build ground up using it. And tbh, Gears 5 already looked friggen amazing with UE4.
2024 just seems too far away. That’s a 5 year gap between the games, which hasn’t happened since Gears 3 to 4 (which had judgment inbetween). Considering this game is going to be a direct sequel to Gears 5, I hope they release the game sooner rather than later.
Yeah I hope so too, TC are very efficient after all.
Personally, I would prefer to see The Coalition release Gears 6 in Fall 2023 using it for what they want to do with UE 5 and then create a new IP for the end of the generation that uses what they’ve learned with Gears 6 via UE 5 as opposed to developing a smaller title to learn UE 5 before Gears 6.
I agree completely
I disagree, if Gears will rest long enough, fans will want it back and if The Coalition could have enough time, they can knock it out the park. The problem with Gears is that we had 9 titles in 15 years, 1 every less than 2 years on average. They overused the IP because they had little to nothing else outside Forza (another overused IP last gen) and Halo (overused during 360 days).
