Regardless, excellent means just that. Excellent. Something that excels. Excelling at something does not mean it is amongst the best of the generation at all. That is what masterpieces are. There are lots and lots of excellent games each generation. But very few masterpieces.
Popularity has nothing to do with quality. Ask Michael Bay.
The game you describe is good game. If a game is excellent, itâs among the best because this is the definition of excellence : it canât be better. And Cyberpunk, in almost every way could have been a better game.
Word of mouth is really important in video game, if Cyberpunk was excellent, people who played it would recommand it to their friends who will play it because the game have a good word of mouth and itâs not the case for Cyberpunk. Even on PC, excellent game with great word of mouth like TW3 and DOS2 still have 2x more players than Cyberpunk. That not mean everything that sell well is excellent, but everything that excellent sold well. Excellent indie like Hollow Knight or Cuphead who donât have big marketing campaign sold extrel, Cyberpunk is like the end of Shingeki no Kyojin or GOT season 8, a deception so bad that nobody talk about it one month after.
Excellent is not an opinion on a game, itâs a fact. People like Roronoa here donât understand that, when you love Bubsy 3D, you must say " I love Bubsy 3D " you donât say " Bubsy 3D is excellent" because excellence is objective and Bubsy 3D is not excellent.
Very good point. People often forget how awesome the background systems like physics and AI are in Halo games. It wonât look like the last of us or Horizon Zero Dawn because these systems take much of the resources. But itâs totally worth it and wonât feel as static as some better looking games. Halo 3 remains extremely playable until this day and always feels fresh because of this. Despite this I am sure this game will look amazing when launching. I still think Halo 3 looks beautiful and timeless even if itâs technically not the strongest game of the 360 generation. Art direction ist also a big factor for the overall look of a game and I like what I am seeing so far.
Iâm also expecting a teaser trailer for Roundhouseâs game. If The Coalition rumors are true about them working on a Star Wars Mandalorian game, then im definitely expecting a teaser trailer announcement for this plus im also expecting Aspyrâs KOTOR remake if itâs exclusive which I would assume would be. InXile is no chance unless what theyâve said about their reveal being years away is complete bullshit and Compulsion at 50/50.
More than new game announcements though, im more hyped to see gameplay for Halo Infinite, Wolfenstein III, Fable, Hellblade 2, Avowed and Starfield.
Speak for yourself. I ONLY care about the single player story campaign and definitely want Ray Tracing.
My definition was for the french word, âexcellent " in french mean âexcellentâ in english and the definition is not the exact same, we use it like the equivalent of " canât be betterâ, there is no term upper to excellence to evaluate something here
According to your definition of excellence, to be excellent, a game need to be extremely good and itâs not something we can qualify a game like Bubsy 3D, because gameplay is bad, game is ugly, you can like it but itâs not good
Excellence, good, bad are objective term to define a game
I like/love/hate it are subjective term to define your appreciation of a game
For example, Lost soul aside have a very poor audio on the last gameplay we saw, so audio is bad, itâs not a matter of opinion, the sound doesnât match the action. Instead of Returnal which look like to have a really good utilisation of a precise sound, so the sound of Returnal is good even if you donât like it.
Itâs like saying Spiderman graphics are ugly because you donât like it, itâs not an opinion, itâs just false
Itâs great to see Xbox working with big 3rd party devs like IOI, Kojima Productions and the others they have in the works. Its huge for Xbox because these studios already come with some rep and eyeballs on them.
Deals like these would have been very difficult in the Xbox one era because of the small install base and dev having to develop for just 1 platform but with Xbox now supporting PC and cloud day one it just makes them a much more attractive proposition. Itâs just the start of this gen and they seem to have a lot stuff in the works compared to last gen.
If you donât like spiderman graphics you say " I donât like spiderman graphics" not " spiderman graphics are bad" because the first sentence is true and the second is false
Iâve not heard anyone who played Cyberpunk on Series X complaining. Usually the people that have raised a fuss about the Series X generally over the last six months are people who do not have one.
You sad âuglyâ in your example, not âbadâ. Either way though, itâs still an opinion. There is no universal metric for what makes graphics good or bad.
You can always found an exception. But Prey, despite his exceptionnal quality in level design/gameplay/art direction was a very poorly optimised game at launch with endless loeding time and with a bad marketing by Bethesda
If there was no universal metric to know if a game look good or bad, Digital foundry woundnât exist
Ugly, bad, this is the same, itâs not an opinion from me, itâs just fact. A game like Bubsy 3D is ugly, even if someone find it beautiful, the game is still ugly because his opinion is not a fact
Youâre confusing your opinions for facts. I donât think you understand what facts are.
Digital Foundry is more like a mathematical analysis. I donât have to agree that what they consider to be better actually is. If they say âThis game runs at 60fpsâ, that is a fact. If they say âThis game is better because it runs at 60fpsâ, that is not a fact, itâs an opinion.
Again, thereâs no universal metric for whatâs good or bad. I often feel like people have shit opinions, but that doesnât mean that they are factually incorrect in thinking the way they do.
