This was true when Bungie was the only one making Halo games but this changed once 343 came with Halo. That very first gameplay showing impressed a lot, looked fantastic. For Halo 5 they couldn’t really do that because they were dead set on delivering 60fps but on rather weak hardware. That’s not the case this time around.

Also, with that very first trailer back in 2018 or 2019 it was, they really set expectations. Honestly that didn’t look impossible and lighting wise we’re probably going to get close to that, hopefully. I don’t think anyone is treating it like it should look like RDR2 or TLOU2 but expecting damn good visuals after being developed for such a long time, and it being 343 is not too much to ask in my opinion.

But that’s not a good thing. The models looked rather bad last year, shouldn’t that be one of the things in the visual department that got improved a lot? The lighting sure did.

If we’re going to just settle on it because meh, it has never been about graphics anyway…that’s not a good thing. They had a lot of time to work on it, it’s also Xbox’ biggest team of all.

I guess we’ll see, but overall I’d find it a very valid complaint if the character models remain largely untouched from last year. It would be odd because the team is well aware of it, after all they fully embraced the Craig meme, knowing that didn’t look good.

That being said, these are merely screenshots from the PC version. Let’s just see it in action (hopefully directly from a XSX) and if that looks great, great!

The environments, gun models and lighting are looking great. Some of the previous screenshots we saw confirmed that, I’d even say they looked fantastic!

But that Brute does look a bit weird, even when not zoomed in. Though we’ve gotta remember that those Brute sprint at you really quick, they are designed to be moving fast, so maybe that’s has something to do with it.

As others have said, I’m confident it will all look great in motion. But I’m not expecting it to blow my mind graphically. The environments might though, they look amazing.

It seems the lighting isn’t really casting onto the brute, so that seems like a WIP thing really. Well, it really is still fully WIP. Great lighting can mask lesser great stuff, like a not so detailed character model. I hope they do improve them, but if not, lighting can do wonders.

And I get why they are showing PC stuff since February, it’s undoubtedly waaaaay easier and convenient taking direct screenshots from there, but during E3 I do hope they make it a point of having a XSX vertical slice ready. Remember those FH3 and 4 videos that could be downloaded from the Xbox site? Those raw, uncompressed videos? Wouldn’t mind seeing that from Halo Infinite running on XSX. If they end up showing on PC again, the talk will be what’s going on with XSX and I hope they can just assure us all is well. Showing it would avoid all that. But, we’ll see.

Somebody at 343 designed the Brute without hair because he or she liked it that way. Thats what artist do. You can disagree with them but to expect they change their opinion on this is weird.

Interestingly, the artists have already talked about adding hairdos to brutes haha, they just haven’t revealed the updated ones yet.

More than 50 games will receive fps boost to 60/120fps next week

Very cool!

That aligns with @Klobrille 's suggestion to keep the Jason Ronald meme ready for next week too

Server side anti cheat for HI is incredible good news if it works well.

No way for cheaters to tamper with, legit customers don’t need to have any draconian shit running on their machines. Prevents any possible console exploits as well.

And it’s likely ML based, so I can see Ms turning this into a real product and part of gamestack/playfab and being one extra way Xbox brings Azure customers.

Yeah, that little squirrel knew

holy shit, that would be glorious.

It would be great, but personally I’d rather the restart of OG&360 games backward compatibility.

That is coming according to @Shpeshal_Nick and Jason Ronald himself if going by his tweet. It would seem to me that the backwards compatibility team has prioritised FPS boost in order to show off their new shiny consoles for the moment.

Why not both.gif

Or better yet, why not all 3? FPS Boost, Heutchy method making games 4k, more OG and 360 games

Yes, I know, but until it’s official I’m always nervous, it wouldn’t be the first endeavour cancelled minutes before the announcement.

Yeah, I would like to see Gears Ultimate edition in 4K AND 60fps, like in the DF video about XSX last year.

They probably have a solid plan to move forward with backward compability both regarding features in the virtual machine and testing them in games. So right now they focus on doubling framerates. If they have exhausted the pool of games suitable for this technology they will move on to the next one (be it 360, og or higher res).

I trust them, they have never disappointed since the program started in 2015.

I think that all 8th gen games are suitable for doubling the frames, they are all essentially pc games ported to console, aside from very few exceptions, not by chance they are playing with DirectX profiles to make it possible. With OG&360 it would be much more difficult, those games were specifically designed for the console, they were not direct ports like since 2013.

Anyway I agree with you that we should be confident, backward compatibiliy team has never failed us, but I can’t wait to see other gems from the past restored.

Maybe it’s not a typhoon but a galaxy! The next Mass Effect exclusively on Xbox and PC like the days of old? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
