I assume the greater issue is the precedence it sets if you have a game that requires a mouse and keyboard with no way to play using a controller getting added to the store. Once you have one game it gets difficult to say no to anyone else who wants to do it.
I don’t know if there is a good way to play AOE with just a controller.

I watched that and… Can you imagine if they made different factions from Westeros in Age 4? Mmmmmm.
And I second/third/fourth/whatever wanting it on console. I get the points on making a game require keyboard and mouse, but so long as they make it plain when you buy it that it’s required… They should be OK.

I hope as many people can play AOE4 as possible, but I really hope they focus on making it a good, return to form for the franchise first and then address a potential console version later.

Pretty sure AoE4 will release on PC first than will have a release on Series X/S. They already have functioning gamepad controls for AoE2DE on Xbox so probably won’t be hard to implement for AoE4.

I could see them making it a simultaneous release but just requiring m&k, then adding a proper controller interfaceat a later date. It would let them try out m&k only games on xbox to see how they do and let a wider audience play AoE4, even if its not a traditional console experience.
That way they also dont give pc players any reason to feel that the game has been “dumbed down” so that it can release on console
