I expect the game to release in 2022/2023, so approximately 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 years of development, accounting for Covid, a larger scaled project and more devs on the team compared to the first game.
The studio is on top currently developing a lot of tech groundwork for Hellblade II and beyond with Project Mara kind of being a playground experience for these things, which will help future games to be developed more efficient.
Video game development is not a one-way road. The majority of Xbox studios are heavily investing in new frameworks, tools and tech for years already, which will make development in the future more efficient. Prominent examples being Turn10 re-tooling ForzaTech, 343 with Slipspace, Ninja Theory as described above, BGS with the Creation Engine and many, many more. All this work had to be done to ensure great tech foundation for years to come.
That increases the chance of a proper gameplay reveal this year. I think it was Sponger that hinted at this too, if all went well a reveal this year and we probably would get to play it next year.
Saw a reaction video yesterday of Halo “noobs” experiencing the Flood for the first time, haha. Seeing that part again makes me hope we get some horrorish bits in Infinite.
True. But the end of Avowed was gameplay so maybe they have a short trailer ready for July. SOD 3 is probably unlikely but I put it on the list because I really don’t want to keep seeing games get announced years early.
I have it pegged as a Spring 2023 game but wouldn’t be surprised if it releases in Spring 2024.
Depending on how reputable Sponger is, there’s a good chance we’re going to see the game this year and if all goes well we might see it released next year. According to him the game had been in the works for a while now and I think 2022 was the plsn?
Don’t you dare get rid of the base building and resource collecting from SoD 3, I will hunt you down if you do haha
For SoD3 I just want more and better, the foundations of the first and second game were good but they just need to do more. Bigger story, more gameplay mechanics, more challenges and better combat. The base premise of the game is good they just need to build on it a lot more. I’m hoping with stupid money and support they have now with MS they can go ahead and do this.
Sometime after Starfield, Avowed, and Fable and before ES VI, inXile’s game and maybe at the same time as Perfect Dark in 2024, I badly want to play The Outer Worlds 2.
I know that many others put in probably 1/4 of the time that I did but after 96 hours in the universe it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever played in. A big budget version of this game will be out of this world, no pun intended. I’m still blown away at how great Murder on Eridanos looks as AA DLC content. IMO, Obsidian is the G.O.A.T. for character personalities, dialogue and side quest diversity. Only the strength of their main plots and depth of combat systems are areas that they don’t excel in.
Strangely though, I have a weird feeling that those who want them to abandon the IP may get their wish, I really hope not, but it could happen.
