So I am understanding this correctly…

  • ACG made a vague acquisition rumor on his last show.
  • Today he tweets out that his Xbox podcast is about to get more popular.
  • He clarifies that what is about to happen will impact all podcasts.
  • A nudge nudge wink wink from @Sikamikanico
  • Now we argue if this is a good for Xbox, or potentially bad for Xbox based on the vagueness for it.

Do I have that right?

They shouldn’t have. They’re no where near the size of a Take-Two and there were rumors for years they wanted to sell to someone. in 2018, they were rumored to go to Microsoft, then in 2019, they were rumored to go to Sony, etc. They were on the block for a long time. It was obvious they were gonna go to someone someday. Take-Two, not so much.

Hey, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. Won’t be the first time. But I think Take-Two ain’t going anywhere.

It did come out of left field but it made a lot of sense right away. They were one of the few publishers “going downhill”, where even very well received critical darlings sold nothing outside the occasional Doom. No wonder they were accepting moneyhats left and right, aggressively monetising their games, etc.

Literally all other publishers in that list are having record breaking years as of late.

I think his reasoning was more about before the acquisition. It is true Bethesda wanted to sell, but not many people were willingto believe at that time that MS would go for a publisher, and were only targeting small to medium studios with which they had a good relation.

So really we have to wait until XboxERA Podcast to get clarity on what any of this means?

The first tweets spins it as a positive for Xbox, but I like to error on the side of caution.
