Xbox Game Studios |OT3| Once more....with feeling (Part 1)

This is the way to be. Gamers have to expand outside their horizons sometimes. I would have never tried a fucking driving game if not for Game Pass, and now Forza Horizon is one of my favorite things in the world.

Major budget problem. I guess this was at a point in Xbox where it was having an existential crisis about whether or not they should even continue to exist lmao, damn they were down bad. I remember being so excited for ReCore having seen its trailers which still look super good BTW and then completely missing its release and even forgetting that it came out, not much coverage at all, plus all those performance issues definitely didn’t help. Also Xbox wasn’t getting props having worked with inafune on that game, who himself went on to have his own little controversy with the mega man game.

Is crazy how far they’ve come.

I can agree on the poor execution… … Except Armature just nailed the gameplay and platforming in dungeons is still way better than most 3D platformer ever.

Recore has many issues (world design suck, metroid-vania aspects are weak at best and the grinding is not a good look for the game) but art, atmosphere, soundtrack, even visuals sometimes are good to very good and gameplay / dungeon design is sometime really excellent.

And the content of the Definitive Edition is really good. If one IP deserve a solid AA budget or full AAA, it’s Recore, and I hope Phil Spencer know this. The last time I have checked player numbers for Recore on the now dead site “gamestats” the game was close to 3 millions players and with steam sales, surely already passed it.

Recore needs a sequel. And every Xbox games with a re-release or Definitive Edition had a sequel so I still believe this one will have it.

And I hope it’s Armature or Asobo behind it.

Rainbow Six Siege has faired pretty well  As did Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I think this used to be true, but isn’t so much anymore.

LMAO. Not laughing at you. I’m laughing at myself and here’s why - before exclusives were on Game Pass, I bought FH 3 and played it for a few hours. Loved it. So I decided to make it my racing franchise. Purchased FH 2 and beat it. Also purchased Blizzard Mountain for FH 3 and Storm Island for FH 2. Played a few hours of Storm Island and that was it. Tried playing FH 3 and just nope.

I learned two things - first, don’t go backwards because it rarely if ever works and don’t try games in genres that you’re not fully committed to. It’s been around 4 years give or take a few months since I last played FH 3 and I bought it digitally so it was accessible to me at any time and I simply had my fill of it.

I would normally never buy indie games, but they have been my most played games this year as fillers for the bigger games. I would have totally skipped out on Jedi Fallen Order as well until it hit Game Pass, its now one of my favorite single player games. The experience of it with headphones on is incredible.

I bought ReCore twice. Two bad decisions with the same damn game. SMH. Sadly, that wasn’t the first nor the last game.

Personally, they should have delayed the game a year which in a way, did anyway and truly try to make something special out of it. Sadly, they didn’t.

I can agree with you on every aspect. My biggest issue is that the game should have been delayed which in a way, it was anyway as they didn’t fix any of the issues until the definitive edition and it’s like, the definitive edition should have just been what the game was the first time. 2017 was empty so while not great, ReCore could have at least filled a small gap with Cuphead.

I have no issues with a sequel or “reboot” already to revitalize it but at this point, I would be surprised if we ever see or hear about ReCore again.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch was 2017 and Switch doesn’t get 90% of the massive multi-platform games so it should do good. Switch is the exclusives/portable console.

As for RSS, it was bad at launch and bombed. If Ubisoft didn’t stick with it which to their credit, they normally do, I wouldn’t be typing this response right now.

It was bad at launch and still sold like very well.

Like I said, this December thing just isn’t as true as it used to be. Same with Summer games. It’s outdated thinking now.

So next year we have Halo Flight sim Mechwarrior Skorn The medium The accent

And possibly Wolfenstein Starfield Forza 5

As exclusives not bad

Unless they can release Starfield spring or summer 2021 it’s gonna be 2022, goddamn. Hopefully early 2022 then.

Yeah, maybe but with Holidays and everyone spending their money in November, there’s simply no valid reason to risk it.

Halo Infinite in November 2021 and Starfield in March 2022. I have never played Halo before (but will be doing so) and I prefer every studio within ZeniMax over Bethesda Game Studios (excluding thos two online/mobile ones) but even I would be thrilled with a top tier AAA blockbuster to end 2021 and to begin 2022.

Summer makes more sense because people are much more likely to have money to spend then as opposed to December.

My main issue is - why overshadow your own game for no apparent reason? Like, why? Makes no business sense to do that.

Xbox Series X line up for 2021 will be “fine” but most of it will be third party exclusive.

The Medium

Scorn (already playable on Series X)

Mechwarrior 5

Flight Simulator

Grounded 1.0

The Ascent

Warhammer Darktide

Bright Memory Infinite

Halo Infinite

It’s not a bad year by any mean and it’s already way above terrible years (2017 and 2019) of Xbox One for sure, and after this I can’t imagine how many games will be released by XGS.

I must say, 2020 was my favorite XGS output of the entire generation, the lack of AAA productions was not an issue with the huge variety of games and constant support of service games. It was a rich year in term of gaming experience.

I just hope Halo Infinite will be the first of a frequent Xbox AAA output with many more A / AA games that take risks.

I get where you are coming from but cause MS have alot in the works sometimes big AAA games are going to go back to back

I prefer the exclusives to be spread out because if I have to choose, chances are that I will simply pass on the game im least interested in. This doesn’t include multi-platform games around the same time period. Also, if Microsoft is releasing Starfield around Halo Infinite, alarm bells will be going off in regards to Halo Infinite because it’s like, why do that unless you’re not completely confident in Halo Infinite?

Bright Memory Infinite, The Ascent and Halo Infinite are guarantees for me. You can also add in Crossfire X which for me, I only care about the campaign from Remedy. This for me at least is the best year I have had for Xbox since 2016.

2016 was my favorite and best year. Quantum Break and Gears 4. FH 3 was excellent but I explained earlier how that went for me (lol) and ReCore was solid. Ori DE was also there.

But overall, 2021 is looking to blow away 2016 for me and 2022 may blow away 2021 for me. Oh man, let’s go, let’s go!!!

I disagree with the confident thing cause Sony did this with Last of part 2 and Ghost Of Tsushima they where almost a month apart and it worked out Starfield could Launch in mid October and Halo comes out the 15 of November

Yes but in a good way haha

Two differences though -

  1. Neither TLOUP2 or Tsushima was delayed a year because of visual quality issues and
  2. Sony was releasing PS5 and simply wanted them out of the way.

I don’t see November 15th happening as it’s on a Monday. That would also make no sense because everyone would be going to work/school after the weekend. The date doesn’t need to be exact to celebrate a 20th Anniversary especially when technically, the game will be a live service ongoing game. November 5th or November 12th is my guess.

I don’t know how to handle it!
