Xbox Game Studios |OT3| Once more....with feeling (Part 1)

I know, but I just wanted to give a few examples. Speaking of them we only know of really two future games from them : Age of Empire and As Dusk Falls - 3 if we include Flight Simulator. They should therefore have more stuff to be announced.

Don’t need to tell me that, but you know the narrative out there lol.

I will say, while it’s common in various fan cultures and i expect it at this point, the blanket take that “cgi trailers are bad” really misses the context and actual underlying problems with why the use of cgi trailers at times this year by microsoft wasn’t recieved well. And in turn why many are perfectly fine with announcing perfect dark via a cgi trailer. At the may inside xbox this year they literally stated they would be showing gameplay for various games, then they showed a bunch of trailers etc where it was left unclear where and what exactly was gameplay. The july showcase followed this up with trailers for everwild which we had already seen before and the trailer didnt do a good job of highlighting what exactly in it was supposed to be the core game loop. The Fable Cgi Trailer got flack cause it closed the show, was about 30 seconds long, and Fable has pretty much been an open secret for 3 years , folks wanted to see more. On top of all this, folks were just really ansty about seeing actual games running on a new console prior to release and with the way this year has been, there were scarce opportunities for this when otherwise there would be.

This is all to say, a lot of these issues aren’t present for this reveal. The xbox systems have been released, many of us have them and are playing them, we know how games run and look on these things now. We’ve had rumors saying Perfect Dark was being made by the initiative but also a BUNCH of counter rumors saying it was anything from just “based in the world” to “episodic”, was third person, was this and that. A trailer even a cgi one clearly and concisely saying what they are working on was appreciated. The trailer itself was also pretty good, not too short, built up suspense, etc. Yes there is a matter of “how long until we actually get to play these” but Xbox has needed to “build the list” so to speaks for years, get people excited for the future, and this stuff is always a no win scenario, they could show psychonauts 2 and a bunch of games closer to release and folks will be mad cause they “already seen it” (even I do this).

Lastly, and I feel there were good examples of this last night, “Showing Gameplay” isn’t always the best course. You can put all the “This is pre-pre-alpha-beta-gamma footage” over your gameplay all you want, but stuff like crimson desert being shown off for 4-5 minutes (an amount of time that honestly dragged), with notable framerate drops, weird audio issues, and really just to show off how shiny and how much effects they could put into a game all for another mmo was as much “yea i’ve seen how this goes” as any cgi trailer.

Really excited about PD, I think it is a strong candidate for the hit the Xbox has been seeking lately. I don’t care if it is 3r or 1st person, a good game is a good game. The settings are super promising. I had the same immersion playing Tomb Raider as I had playing Deus Ex or Prey, the same immersion playing the Witcher 3 as Skyrim or Fallout. When a game is good, it sucks you in, the camera perspective is just a detail. I believe sooner than later XGS will be dropping hit after hit, given the quality and extension of their studios.

I have been developing some Gamepass anxiety due their overwhelming growing catalogue. I don’t have time to play everything I want, at same time I get worried about the games I want to play being removed LOL. Seriously, so many times I have been in the imminence of buying CodeVein. No joke, gamepass is spectacular.

Nobody is saying that, you just keep pushing it everywhere as were it a genre. And it isn’t every 2D platformer is a third person game by default. Just you only seem to care about that, and don’t ever say “I do not like RTS games”. After you ruined the mood for me in one thread, why would I still discuss with you on a non joking level?

I simply have no desire to do so anymore, as every time we try we will end up fighting about a bloody camera perspective! L O L! :joy: . To me there is so much mroe to a game than a camera perspective, and only know you try to “diversify” your terminology?

I’m sorry, I’m not buying it. So… how do you drive, seating backwards and having the bathroom mirror strapped to the chair? Must take a lot of Yoga to be able to do that. (joking, in case you coudln’t tell).

And yes, I don’t enjoy Skyrim due to the camera perspective. So I got some understanding where you come from, but it is a bit rich to go about that all games should be like a cinematic walking simulator with QTEs and the illusion of an open world… and link ALL OF THAT to a camera perspective like you did before.

Same, I’m afraid my SEGA games that I like (Yakuza for instance), will soon be gone to make room for a walking simulator or the Messenger… a game I really enjoy playing as well :). Also: Among Us on gamepass? that’s pretty big with the Streamer loving crowd :). If they keep that up the Series S going to get more and more interesting for people :P.

It’s why I am totally ok for the Initiative to announce the game via a CGI trailer and an accompanying dev video, because it dispels a lot of the rumours about it and gives us a better idea what they are working on.

@Klobrille add Ark II to this, since I would assume this is one of the projects Global Studios is working on.

Surprised more people aren’t talking about ARK 2. That trailer is the most next gen thing we’ve seen and parta of it are pretty representative of what I expect from UE5 games. I know it was in-engine with game assets (but not real time) but it still kinda set the stage for what I hope to see from Hellblade 2.

Also, I know nothing about Ark, so there is likely good reason nobody is talking about it lol

Most “hardcore gamers” on gaming forums are loathe to play survival sim games. Especially one as… let’s say thorough as Ark. But the game is extremely popular and has a fanbase that actually plays the game for hours a day, everyday.

It looks a little rough around the edges but I do wanna see more of it

I thought the whole show was ok. Good announcements. Perfect dark is good. Xbox just need to show some games comming and they did. I’m glad I kept my expectations in check. Some people who were expecting hellblade and god of war and silent hills from Sony are upset now. Ark was a surprise. I’m assuming it’s a timed exclusive?

Ark is not your usual hype game. But it is extremely popular among many people.
