Xbox Game Studios |OT12| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

Most gamepass subs come from xbox, and their storefront on xbox is where they sell most of their games. They aren’y going to stop making consoles.

I get and somewhat agree with the stance about 3rd parties, but that has only ever really effected Asian markets and developers which has been happening forever and isn’t something EU console sales should determine ,We (and me personally) just don’t see that kind of thing with western studios (unless their paid off),.

I think the reality is what a lot of us have come to the conclusion to over the past 6 years and what MS noticed last Gen.

There ain’t any real growth in the console market, especially regions that are primary PC focussed like Eu and Asian (SK).

Their effectively competing over bout 20 mil people that will interchange between the HD twins, MS has realised that 50 - 60 mil globally for the plastic box sales is their upper limit barring a real Sony F’up.

They could throw a lot of money and time trying to gain those Fickle 20 or so mil players that will jump at a moments notice, or grow the other markets which their doing instead. Would they like to sell through 100 mil units? absolutely, but unrealistic in today’s market.

It’s blood boiling but I expect excessive un-educated moronic drivel from glorified lazy as fuck pay-checkers like IGN, Gamesbiz, Kotaku and the like but not people / podcasts who position themselves as more in the know regarding XBOX and it’s past and future plans.

I have no idea why people ignore this, they have 25m+ subs on console and that’s only going to increase

Ditching consoles would mean losing the vast majority of those which have no interest in PC or Cloud

Yeah, why would Microsoft kill 80% of their gaming revenue? People sleep on the fact that Microsoft store generates so much of money by getting a 30% cut from third party games and microtransactions, and there is no way they want to give up that revenue stream. I think it’s crazy talk that they would surrender a storefront to become a third party publisher.

Not a mistake. It’s deliberate. It’s because Xbox Exclusives gets engagement on the X platform.

IGN sucks but no surprise there.

Well then, hopefully they keep reminding everyone so that 5 years from now nobody actually expects this to release on PS6

I didn’t think it this way.

They are actually doing xbox a favour here. Lets support them on this.

France and Germany have a combined population of 150 million and 14 million PS4 units. UK has a population of 67 million and 7 million PS4 units. The rate is not so different…

In total, even though the population is larger, Europe bought more PS4 than North America, so it’s clearly worth making marketing efforts on this continent.

This reminds me of another website that on the day of Spidey’s release and twitter posts showing the bugs had once again published a Starfield article. About what a shame it is Todd didn’t manage to reinvent themselves with the game. Instead of reporting that the holy grail Sony game wasn’t perfect and actually reporting on bugs…they go back to Starfield. :expressionless_face:

It’s a pattern.

We know for years that ED6 will not be on playstation.

I fear this is even worse than bias, we are starting to see editorial posts on websites automatically generated by algorithms and AI. Long time ago, journalism was considered to bring information when something happened. Now, internet and web engagement, you need to posts things no matter what constantly.

I can comment on France. The country is deeply pro Sony and pro-Nintendo. Having an xbox presence is hard. Still, the new generation is very much mobile, and this is where MS can progress.

Former Epic Games recruiter posted about arranging an outplacement event with XGS regarding people laid off from Epic Games.

Wow my numbers were a bit off, really thought Germany was over a 100mil pop for some reason.

Still the point I’m trying to make is it really isn’t worth the “additional” investment to try and claw away 2-3 / 4 million people from the other boxes. That’s not a few mill per country either, that’s total for a heavily Sony / Nintendo based EU, when countries like Poland or really any of the " Central and Eastern" EU countries are largely PC centric anyway.

I get it though, it’s all about perceived Presence if anything, the issue I have with this is it’s not the whole picture.

Let me ask you and really everyone else a question and please answer it honestly.

If not for the recent update from Minecraft live, did you or anyone else know that Minecraft was still the best selling game of all time? by quite a margin to boot?

I didn’t. Just like a have to remind myself that Tencent, a company that no main media or gaming sites talk about generates between double / to more than double revenue per year over Sony.

Unless the gaming information pertains mainly to PS / Nintendo and ships on a plastic box the general media if effectively blind to it because they still live in the 90’s - 2000’s console centric bubble. It makes Xbox look so worse off when it’s quite a different reality if we actually look at their revenue / profit charts.

If noone told you, would you bet MineCraft Dungeons is 25 million players ?

We all could bet that MineCraft Legends is a failure, despite we know it sold 3M on switch alone in its first week.

Most MS games are high long tail sellers. For a Bleeding Edge, we have Flight Sim, SOD2, Sea of Thieves, etc MS need to improve its message anyway.

The Era Bubble is blind to the F2P big selling money makers of our time. Then, they wake up surprised when Sony told them they have 10 Gaas games in production.

They will be even more surprised when they will discover Sony is not trying its Gaas games, it relies on them for survival due to the skyrocketing costs of SP AAA games.

They do, I just don’t know how as if it’s not console performance or games sales related it’s basically ignored or the goalposts are moved.

What is the difference between copies sold that sit unopened on peoples shelves vs games pass games played for an hour then uninstalled. The cost difference? For brand new 70 dollar games the difference is big, but bargain bin releases or heavily discounted games, negligible, but players is still a dirty word over sales.

SF5 and GT Sport are perfect examples as here in the UK they were bargain binned within a month and could be found for sub 20quid quite commonly. But we still see sales figures followed by chest beating over how much better they sold.

It’s just 2 completely different metrics at this point. Both should be equally celebrated but how many copies a game sold vs how many people have played a game just shouldn’t be weighted the same or be used to put one or the other down.
