Xbox Game Studios |OT12| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

I don’t think cell based is the issue here. It’s probably due to all the the extra items that would have to be calculated if it was seamless. Definitely do think BGS could hide it better with some door opening animations or something, though I think the loading screens would be less frequent when we return to Tamriel due to the game spanning a country and not part of a galaxy lol

I think that’s the case for just about every engine(based on old foundation), it’s not like Creation Engine was created so far apart from UE or Rage Engine. It’s just hasn’t had the same amount of people and time into updating it as the other 2 have.

Rage Engine was initially released in 2006, Creation Engine in 2011(Gamebryo 2003, was called NetImmerse from 1997-2003), Unreal Engine first released in 1998. So these engines have very similar history, but the technology improvements/adoption hasn’t been the same.

Just switch engine, just use UE5 4Head

If there’s one thing I’m getting really tired of seeing it’s this absolute nonsense and it’s only gotten more and more stupid as this gen has progressed considering many devs are now showing with their games that UE5 is not all it’s cracked up to be, it’s a complete resource hog

Bethesda should continue to upgrade CE2 and while there are certainly things they should look to improve the jump from FO4 to Starfield is absolutely huge in many different ways

CE is one of the major reasons beyond the talent they have there that they are able to make these kinds of games and that will only become more apparent when mods come flying in for this game

Honestly all this. The nonsense about the engine is completely uninformed. This game is absolutely beautiful and barely misses a frame. It’s splendid.

Some loading screens aren’t a good reason to abandon an engine that works. And UE5 I’m hearing is problematic and that’s why many UE5 games are behind schedule.

FWIW, I don’t think they should change engines (that’s ridiculous). I would like them to improve it to better handle transitioning between environments though.

You have to wonder if some of the things you can’t do (like fly around, land the ship, walk as far as you want etc) is due to the fact that the engine does not handle transitions well. These are not things that bother me, but seem like the kind of things you get when you have that sort of technical limitation.

The only bad things for me with Starfield is inconsistency with face models and some environmental areas, like some faces look amazing and others don’t and it doesn’t bother me because how much stuff the game does that I enjoy elsewhere, I can look past it. If they could just manage to get the face models to look the same as their best across the game that would be and even bigger slam dunk for me. I think it’s either a time thing or technical, can’t have too many high quality assets with how much shit is going on in the game.

Put it this way if the improved faces means less of the cool BGS shit, then I’d skip the face upgrades.

You have 300 people working at Relic who are working on two of the biggest RTS series on PC at the minute. CoH 3 and AoE4… which must be a mammoth achievement, but it shows they were stretched thin.

CoH3 released in February and needs an awful lot of support as it is lacking content.

Age of Empires 4 is the same as I feel it lacks content.

Both are getting expansions over the Winter and hopefully with this new studio helping both games can be padded out with new maps, factions and units.

Game Studios will have so much assist especially when ABK join.

I’m fine with this. I prefer people stick around to fix it than abandonment. I know the studio is working on a new game as well, so I don’t see a problem with this. Plus, the concept is still neat that is anchored heavily by faults.

Don’t know where to stand on this. Yes they should update and improve it to a good state but I prefer this ends up being a big abandoned loss than for it to be “fixed” and then that mindset of “launch now and fix later” continues without real consequence. F76 should’ve already been the lesson. This one of course is shared between Bethesda and Xbox.

Abandonment will leave a bad will on their brand. Pete did compare with 76 and ESO and it’s true that both did make a good comeback. I can’t say this will as well, but abandoning it will be disservice and god forbid, if the future game happens similar, people can actually say they will abandon it too.

I enjoyed Redfall enough that I’d play it again if they keep supporting it.

I look forward to trying out the new characters and experiencing again in 60fps. Hopefully early 2024. The rest of 2023 is Starfield, Forza, and Cyberpunk expansion for me.

Again, it’s better to abandon this than let it misguide you on future projects. It’s an L and you take it, anything that should’ve been done should’ve been done by rebooting or not allowing it to release in the first place. It’s not completely amultiplayer live service thing like ESO and FO76.

If it gets to a good place where people enjoy it, fine, good for the game, but what if builds that mindset? The next game could also be subject to it, close to release, if doesn’t look great but we’ll just get it out and see the reception, if it sucks then we’ll fix it like Redfall. That’s not healthy. Some real great studios took an L like that, it’s fine, just move on and take the lesson from it.

Agree to disagree. I see your point. There’s no best answer. Damn if you do, damn if you don’t.

Will be interesting to see how long it keeps viewership. Twitch is by no means a metric of overall popularity, it’s more subject to streamer popularity than actual game popularity, I could see the game keep decent views due to mods and that crazy stuff bringing some steamers back, but it’s hard to compete with multiplayer games.

I feel bad for Larian. They’ve been thrust into the middle of this console war bullshit through no fault of their own.
