April 12 sounds like a great day for Starfield. It’s space day. Let’s do that!
I hope redfall internal delay is to change coop progression .
Oh we’re comparing? Didn’t think that through. Point taken.
Why do they need this? One of the major benefits of the 12 month window is that studios have a much more mature project to work with and can do an announcement with relatively polished gameplay instead of wasting resources putting together a vertical slice 2 years begore release.
BGS typically announced a game and releases within 6 months. Forza (at least Horizon) the same.
An early announcement with CGI probably makes sense for some stuff (especially if needed for recruitment), but far from a need.
I maintain my stance that 12 month timeframe is enough - as long as the games announced there are coming (with Xbox for now it is hard to predict). They don’t need to show the games further because it serves nothing but just list wars.
Two big shows encompassing H2/H1 and H1/H2 is enough for big shows. They also have smaller shows like Blizzcon, Quakecon, Minecon. And summer / autumn in general has a lot of shows from E3 to Gamescom and TGS and TGA (well this year Xbox had nothing there). Maybe some Direct for a single game just before launch would nice - just in time for marketing campaign. Like 15-20m pure gameplay like that Harry Potter State of Play for example.
I do think that Microsoft should spread their releases to have less gaps. Rather than having for example two big first party games in the same month, they should spread them 1-2 month apart to have some relative even game distribution. Like we got Forza and Halo last year and then nothing for 2022. Would it be better if at least one of those games were released later? Of course it would!
I guess it would be Outriders and plague tale, but those games don’t generate the same type of hype like diablo .
Elden Ring /s
The question is that why would Microsoft offer ABK Day 1 deal for Diablo considering that they are buying them? It is a waste of money.
Some people say they won’t cram it all in the first half, but they forget that this was the plan all along ever since E3 this year. Also, last year we had Psychonauts 2, MSFS, FH5 and Halo Infinite in the second half. Damn, crazy when you think about it.
In reply to Jez there’s this
And he says
I wonder if Jez actually knows more about FM and Starfield.
Or not.
I wonder what Microsoft is going to sell us to trick us into buying into early access? Lol
I assume gamepass ultimate or they might do it through insiders like halo infinite
2021 was a great year for Xbox, I had a lot of fun at that time playing all those games + mass effect legendary edition.
The goal post to bash Xbox is staggering.
My favourite Xbox game ever launched on 2021.
Psychonauts 2.
What a work of art.
I guess ARA or AoE?
Completely idiotic in retrospect to make that promise that all games shown would release within a 12 month window.
You could at least wait for something to not make it
If redfall is releasing in May, as has been widely confirmed… do you believe Starfield will release before that or in June ?
Seems pretty doubtful to me.
I believe that the two games are completely independent and have no bearing on each other. Redfall being in May doesn’t give me any new information about Starfield.
Weren’t we told that Redfall would release before Starfield…
I might be wrong on that account… in any case, until Xbox stop being radio silent, we’re completely in the dark to when these games are releasing… relying on leaks basically.
