Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

I honestly think redfall is gonna be really underrated. As usual with arkane games.

Even if the immersive sim elements are lighter this time around and it’s more like borderlands.

When was the last time we had a good borderlands like. It could be really good.

I think it’s going to be easily their most popular game. Co op + Gamepass just seems like a good recipe for success.

I think Redfall is gonna be great, I think it’s just hard to market like most Arkane games

Probably needs a big deep dive to see what the exploration is like and the options you have, you can’t really get that from the small trailers they’ve done unlike a big cinematic game

Earlier this year before Ghostwire came out they had one or two SoP streams for it I think? Something like that and then bam, release a month later or so. With it being a Game Pass day one I think they can afford or somewhat more simpler marketing.

The gamepass business model just really lends itself well to Nintendo style directs, and I hope that all of this talk is a sign of them finally about to do it.

I’m so confused why they marketed the game like that though🤣. These trailers where it’s funny banter character narrations over the gameplay and quick cuts just feel out of date. It also won’t be representative of the game as they said the dialogue is not constant like the trailers.

Just show us a 30min stretch of gameplay and features. Then give us a story trailer.

This week on Xbox would be the better model for Microsofts own direct style show just done every 3 months. A reel of up coming 3rd and 1st party games (10-15) with short clips of it in action with release dates, and 1-3 new announcements at the end (maybe one 1st, and one or two 3rd).

They just need to make a big deal out of it, announce the date for the showcase, set expectations for most of the release dates (within the 12 months) and have the new announcements be for games further out. This way they can have enough content for every show while having a good amount if it for the E3 showcase.

Yeah I’m still sceptical about the game because of the trailers. If the game is something else, which would be good, why on earth did they set that tone?

Well, maybe they want that cheeky, youth style or something.

Arkane’s games have always had problems with their reveals.

From the ign article interview with Harvey smith:

“ Then today, the response to the gameplay trailer has been very positive. In those comments, once in a while, I see somebody like, “I hope they don’t talk this much during the game. They’re very chatty.” And that is true, they don’t. For marketing purposes, we just double down on the amount of dialogue that’s in that trailer otherwise there’s long moments of silence.”

Xbox marketing team often does feel out of touch and out of date. It’s one reason I’m praying there’s no “hosts” and minimal talking because it kills me inside everytime there’s some boomer on screen talking about “how epicsauce that banger was”

I’m Gen Z myself and I usually find it very cringeworthy and very “hello fellow kids”

True that.

When Prey was revealed I thought eh…we’ll see. The demo came and it sold me on the game immediately. Dishonored did sell me with its gameplay reveals.

Yea im not too worried about the chatting/hip tone, it feels like something a lot of games do for trailers nowadays

It’s a shame there’s no Prey 2 on the way or at least not yet, I feel like now that people are more aware of what Prey 2017 actually was, if a sequel was announced people would be super hyped

Redfall being a new IP people don’t quite know what to expect

You lot sound like a bunch of cornballs, tbh. There was nothing wrong about how Redfall was advertised. Showing off the characters personalities and how they play off each other is big part of the game.

There is always a room for complaint :joy:

It does upset me that we didn’t get a sequel to Prey. A lot of people didn’t play it, but that was one of the best immersive sim games I’ve ever played.

Right now with Arkane under Xbox there is a chance, before the acquisition there clearly wasn’t…especially with how bad it sold AND how underrated the game was from the critics. Now it all depends if the genius people at Arkane Austin want to make another Prey game, at least we are in a better/more hopeful spot than we were before the acquisition.

It’s fine to think that the advertising was ok

It’s also fine to find that tone unappealing, the fact that the director addressed it shows that it must have been a pretty common complaint

I don’t necessarily want Prey 2 but I really want something with a similar design philosophy to it. A singular interconnected environment, multiputpose tools especially like the GLOO Gun which they can go more crazy with now on advanced hardware.

Sure, but it was more about what they said and how they did it rather than that they talked that was my issue.

Yes, and it presented the game in a way that was not really in vibe with what they, and others, have later said that the game is.

What they revealed did not appeal at all to me, whilst what it might turn out to be does.
