Optimistic is a nice word to use, I’d call it delusional.
Agree. It is a good strategy to put out there though.
It could get media off their back. Those that have “bias” towards Xbox can maybe hold off and not be so aggressive against them if Phil is saying Team Blue will always be number one in the console space. It’s been super negative since the Activision purchase. There is a fear.
Also in regards to the media, based on IGN podcasts, etc. I would never give them a “First Look” again. They are trying to put Xbox in the grave right now with all their takes.
You don’t talk about the Godd that way!
J/k.
Yeah, him doubling down on that several times in that year was not good at all. Lesson learned, I’m sure.
Phil mentioning Avowed and Hellblade 2 the way he did…it’s finally time in June? Man I hope so.
Yes, that is true of course. They are not as reliant on console sales as the others are, but I’m pretty sure it is important.
This is the right thing to say now, but with great games and great hardware (available hw…) they would narrow the gap a lot. Which I think is good enough, no one expects them to sell the most consoles and the don’t have to.
I think they used the ol God of War Ragnarok trick.
Basically lie to us to sell some consoles and say it’s coming very soon knowing their upcoming year(2022) is pretty barren.
And yeah man, I think it’s finally time. Avowed gameplay soon come !
One of my biggest hopes is they start showing games running on Series X. It was ridiculous that the first Redfall Series X footage was some random 1000 subs youtuber who put out an early review.
Yeah, it’s definitely important. He said in the interview that it remains the center of their gaming Initiative.
Similarly how Nintendo had to differentiate and leverage their strengths, I think Xbox is doing the same thing though.
Did they ask Phil about Square Enix ?
No lol. His only comment about Japan in general was that he was happy to see Minecraft Legends being #1 on Famitsu sales last week
Certainly. The financial strength of being able to carry a thing like Game Pass is a unique advantage to Xbox for example.
I do think consoles are important in that it gives the brand an identity and foundation. Clout so to speak.
He implied that competitors make discreet deals to keep Xbox down.
Also being the most important platform to drive Gamepass subs at the moment.
As shown in the CMA documents, cloud is YEARS away from driving gamepass subs.
It’s really just down to PC and Consoles.
Looks like a blocked topic lol. Honestly I’m not expecting any Square games anytime soon including Kingdom Hearts and excluding indies or western games like Outriders.
I’m picturing shady exchanges of money and threats in a Tokyo back alley.
Which is probably not far from the truth.
KH might happen but only because it would be a Disney decision, everything else I just assume is skipping xbox
I played the Yakuza games, I know how these deals go down
A very good interview with Phil, just what the doctor ordered.
I feel a lot more confident about Starfield’s quality and he more than hinted we can expect a few more releases this year (HB2 sounds a lock, at least)
Good stuff
Phil also mentions the ROG Ally in the interview as something he’s excited for. I’m not sure how much Xbox have personally invested in it, but devices like that are basically made for Game Pass and will drive subs also.
The brand manager of Final Fantasy, who was also an executive officer of Square, retired from Square to join Sony Music.
Asus has to be getting some investment from Microsoft. Unlike Valve, Asus doesn’t have a digital storefront to subsidize their product. There is no way that they can get the price as low as they have without it.
welp. guess the green spirals on this year’s showcase’s logo is really the one from Avowed. similar at how the 2021’s one featured the planet from the 1st Starfield teaser.
hypeed!..
