Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

I can’t believe it. Halo of all things. They could at least gave Staten a shot at this since he, you know, is the reason your whole business exists today.

I feel like 343 may end up releasing a blog post or video about the event. It’s not guaranteed, but it could happen. Like I said in my theory, it sounds to me that Microsoft waited for this moment to restructure the studio. Doing it outside would give them a real bad look than what’s happening now.

Xbox made the right choice to grab this for not only Game Pass boost, but the credibility of the console’s power showcase.

I’m sorry not sure if i understand correctly, does this mean 343i, other than supporting HI, will become a support studio for the rest of XGS’s ones?

Yeah this is the disappointing part here if all this is true, I think if 343 and Staten in particular had just gotten time they could have made some great single player content and turned things around. It’s just a shame it seems like the layoffs really forced them to make some difficult decisions here, but I also can’t fault them for prioritising the multiplayer component. The biggest thing that Infinite has needed is just consistent content releases and they are so very close to actually providing that, losing a portion of their staff would jeopardise that.

From my understanding, 343 will still be doing content for Infinite moving forward, just that for future projects, they will act more like The Initiative, supervising and helming projects in co-developement with other studios.

Yeah, sounds like that to me. For example, Playground is doing that on Fable with support from Eidos Montreal.

Matt Booty also said in a recent interview that this could be the future trend.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it is a way for them, considering the hiring being freezed and the economic situation, to continue pumping out contents for Infinite, while moving forward with new projects.

Yeah, if this is what is healthy in the long-term, then we cannot complain.

343i is already seemingly on this path, delegating the rumored Project Tatanka to Certain Affinity.

I am honestly not sure about the whole 343i being just an “IP keeper” company and letting others develop the games or big parts of them. Despite all of the issues with Halo Infinite, that are many, there are great qualities in it, as a really solid gameplay. And that grapplehook, I love that grapplehook. So if the company or great part of it were to be dissolved, I will fear losing that Halo gameplay identity.

343i will still be working on Infinite MP for a long time.

It’s only SP content that 343i will not be working on. Think of it like World’s Edge with their handling of Age of Empires.

At this rate, we need them to speak on the matter.

But then the question is, who will make SP content? Probably not for Infinite anymore, but I do hope to see more campaign for Halo in the future. There’s no way that won’t happen.

Did Staten leave by himself or was he let go from that position?

Other teams most likely with 343 providing help/advice etc like CA and Tatanka, for new games that is, SP infinite content is clearly dead

As for Staten who knows, at least he’s still with publishing but if 343 are no longer doing single player stuff on their own and the multiplayer now has a clearer direction, maybe his role there was kinda pointless going forward

Yes, there won’t be anymore single player content for Infinite.

Do not expect a new Halo campaign anytime soon. If/when there is one, it sounds like it will be developed by an external studio with 343i supervising it. And it may not necessarily be an FPS game.

We do not know about Joe Staten, but at least he’s back with Xbox Publishing.

I just going to call Halo Infinite dead for me currently.

There won’t be any single player content until next gen. Maybe later as it’s unlikely that any studio is going to do a mainline FPS, with the Halo community waiting to tear them down any time soon and no one in XGS is interested in working on the IP and I doubt Zenimax and later ABK wants too either.

No other studio is going to use Slipspace over UE, and from 343’s own dabbling with UE. They determined that it wasn’t good enough yet to completely replace Slipspace because it just couldn’t do everything they needed. So, whatever ‘feel’ Infinite has is never going to replicated in the future.

Good luck to 343 and I wish them the best, I can’t support them by playing Infinite any longer, but I will at least try to buy the books I’m interested in (if any more books even get written).

Oh man, what a shame. Halo really deserves so much better. So much for HI being a platform, for the ten year plan. Well, not for SP that is. It probably isn’t a 343 issue only either, they can’t only be to blame.

We knew things had been bad there, but I think a lot of us still had hope and expected things to pick up there, slowly but surely. Hopefully the other studios with new projects are all going fine. Can only hope that such things don’t happen again.

Now let’s head to good Xbox news next week and soon after Starfield show.

I’m still playing Infinite and looking forward to season 3 and beyond. :sunglasses:
