I have pretty much given up on IOI and Remedy as ever entering the XGS fold, despite how much I’d wish they would (I know in the latter case, the business justifications may not be there but I love their games and love what they do with a massive budget). I do think WB Games makes a ton of sense for XGS however, with or without the IP, because I would argue that the quality of the developers in the majority of those studios justify the cost; obviously, I would love for some if not all of the IPs to be included, especially after this Spider-Man mess. Additionally, the additional studios outside of the heavy hitters would be great as support teams, as others have mentioned. Obviously, I’m not an acquisitions manager or a business guru, but it seems as though the value proposition for the studios and their output going straight to Game Pass makes a lot of sense.
As far as acquisitions outside of WB Games, I still have a couple of hopefuls, especially as several other big players are starting to buy studios and exclusive content agreements:
Asobo - I think this is the most obvious, and perhaps most important. Their work on Flight Sim speaks for itself, and I think anyone who’s played A Plague Tale sees the massive potential these amazing devs have from a technology and creative front.
Frontier - Obviously, they have a longstanding relationship with Microsoft and they have some of the most diverse catalog of titles. With Elite and their Tycoon series, I really feel like they could fill some niches that, while not the AAA blockbusters that some will only care about, do bring further diversity and “magic” to the portfolio. Elite could still remain multiplatform, much like Minecraft; I only see that population growing and growing, as someone who loved the old titles and has been on board ED on the Xbox One since its Game Preview days.
Those are probably my two biggest wishes, but I’d obviously love to see some Japanese teams like JP Games, Mistwalker, and/or Feelplus. Some Polish/Eastern European love would be great too with the likes of Farm51, Techland, and/or 4A Games (their tech capabilities are a wonder). I meant for this to be a much longer rant but work has caught up with me, so I’ll cap it off with this.
I think covid has slowed down progress on a lot of XGS projects. Things don’t seem as far along as I had hoped. The announced games all seem great but it may be a long time till we see them.
I think that’s definitely a possibility, but it’s not just them that have been affected so I hope we all keep that in mind when next year is a wee bit light.
I’m really impatient to see the BC stuff with current gen games having their framerate and resolution upped with auto HDR. Hope to see Dark Souls 3 being running on XSX at full 4K 60. Lost Odyssey, Sunset Overdrive and Final Fantasy IX also I want to see them enhanced to appreciate it even more.
Kind of off-topic but how I can “pin” this topic so it’s always at the top of the topic list? I select pinned option but it never stays pinned. Thanks.
Hi , I’m from Brazil, an Xbox fan! (Sorry, my english sucks). Very happy to participate in this forum to discuss Games, Xbox Game Pass … I know there are a lot of very experienced people with Xbox here and I would like an opinion from you about Xbox Marketing … We had the Xbox Games Showcase in July an event that in my opinion “was all or nothing” with regard to how the Xbox treats its production of Exclusive content, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the promotion of this event in the media, compared to the competition for example, " The Future of Gaming "on PS5, had an aggressive promotion on TVs, Youtube, Twitch and more, and the Xbox Showcase did not, and the event itself did not tie. Perhaps due to the necessary use of CG, or the lack of Gameplay, Everwild for example, I have no idea how to “play” that thing, it seems that Everwild is still in a conceptual phase. So, what is happening, in your opinion, with the Xbox Marketing Sector?
At the beginning of the Xbox One, marketing was aggressive and since then, investment in Marketing has greatly decreased…
Imho Phil should forget the past and let them a second chance. Could be a great game for next gen only with all the insane tech inside the XSX, Kamiya and his team can reach their vision this time to make something truly breathtaking and a joy to play.
Personally, if the rumors are true about Platinum using the funds for Scalebound on their other projects, I would never ever work with them again because I wouldn’t be able to trust them.
In general, game looked bad, ran bad and played bad. Plus the protagonist looked like a joke. Let it stay dead in my opinion.
