I think it will depends on how well the xbox division is doing, if they are doing very well expect timed exclusives and or other perks, but if they are not doing great and sony is killing it with amazing first party games I think xbox will be more agressive. I do however think full exclusivity is the better long term option. No doubt xbox are using Bethesda as a negotiating pawn to try and get game pass on playstation. They are keeping the options open.
To be fair the old way of console gaming is going to die eventually weather sony or Microsoft like it not. It is a long way off but when games do look no different then reality or moore law has slowed to a snails pace incentive to buy knew hardware is going to be very low and while there will be knew hardware in the form of VR + haptics its going to be different to the closed garden console hardware and echosystems companies like sony, sega, Nintendo and Microsoft have had it in the past. The gen after SeriesX/PS5 I think will be the last in the traditional sense, the conoles in 2027 will be at 3nn or hopefully 1nm, hardware progression beyond 1nm will be a lot slower or more expensive then the past unless radical innovations dont happen.
This article is a non-issue. At the end of the day, we will just have to see.
He can’t say anything until the deal is finalized but I partially agree that he needs to keep idiots like this in check
100 % agree with you, this has happened to many times now Phil needs to lay the law down.
Lets wait for the deal to finish.
It makes no sense what so ever to release Bethesda IP’s on PS5 unless they are completely multiplayer focused.
It makes no sense to spend $7.5B and have no “PLATFORM ADVANTAGE”. Hey we have all this content but you can play on PS5 without game pass. Defeats the whole purpose of coming to Xbox Ecosystem in the first place and the point of acquiring studios.
In my mind it doesnt work … you dont see netlifx, amazon originals being available on other platforms?
So silly people flipping their shit even before the deal is done. The Zenimax deal is great news for Xbox gamers no matter how the exclusivity issue works out.
Oh they know what they want to do but they aren’t able to say we are going to do X. At this point I wish they would just not answer any questions about Bethesda and exclusivity until the acquisition is done and they announce platforms for games like Starfield. That will speak for more effectively and to their long term plans.
I 100% agree with this. At that point, Microsoft would be better off just becoming the second coming of Sega.
and deathloop and ghostwire tokyo remain timed exclusive to PS5 ? this like getting c#$kblocked by your own mother
I think that’s fine, Wasteland 3, Outer Worlds, Psychonauts 2 are on or coming to PlayStation, they had deals in place before the acquisitions. They will come to Game Pass day one later, fine by me. Tbh though, I have no interest for Deathloop. Ghostwire could be interesting, we’ll see.
“that’s fine” lmao so xbox onwers getting less content is fine ? but but but but it will be on game pass year later. so PS5 Will get starfield, deathloop and ghostwire tokyo in 2021 while XSX/XSS will only get Starfield and wait full year for the other games… yeah my dude i’m sorry but you are no different from blind fanboy with this type of thinking
Gotta be honest, I laughed for a few minutes straight after reading this comment. LMAO.
Sure buddy lol MS hasn’t even acquired Zenimax yet but they should come in and kill those deals that were signed months/years ago!
Phil himself said they will respect the deal with sony imo i only said that if zenimax remain multiplatform. MS should not fear of some internet negativity but they should be afraid from their own fans if that happens
Yes I know he said they would and that’s why I said I thought it was fine. Have they officially said it’s 1 year exclusivity deals?
I fully expect most of future Zenimax games (that are not ESO or Fallout 76) to be fully exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem. But in the end all that matters to me is I’m getting all these games on Game Pass, most on day one, and that’s incredible value.
The way he is saying first or best on Gamepass instantly leads me to think timed exclusives. Why even say these things if they are supposed to be exclusives? No need to entertain any questions or add any more fuel to the burning fire. Exclusivity on a platform is one of its biggest assets. People play PlayStation for its exclusives. Having Bethesda attached to Xbox ecosystem will only draw players in. It’s something exciting. By giving these answers in interviews they cause a certain group of people to have expectations that Bethesda games will come to their platform. They should instead have not talked after that last Phil Spencer interview about case by case basis. I feel like people were getting used to the idea of Bethesda exclusive to Xbox but this reverses direction which is not what Xbox needs.
yeah it was confirmed to be 1 year.
for me i don’t care if they made zenimax multiplatform but i will be mad if deathloop and Ghostwire tokyo remain timed exclusive to PS5 and zenimax remained mutiplatform. imo this sound to me throw your console in the trash bin
Yeah I see what you mean, it would definitely not bring more people to Xbox to make these games multiplat, and it wouldn’t make Xbox console owners feel like they made the best choice. I really don’t expect timed exclusivities, it goes against everything they’ve doing and saying, until this guy.
Just FYI since this is a common misconception, Phil actually isn’t above him. The CFO of Xbox reports up to the CFO of Microsoft, which is Amy Hood. Same as how Xbox marketing people report up to the Chief Marketing Officer which is Chris Capossela, not Phil.
