Always has been, and it’s damn good to see Sega firing on all fronts with old and new IP in tandem… and look at that, Golden Axe is back indeed - it’s good to be wrong sometimes (keeps things interesting
Look at the controller they’re using
I need to see an extended Golden Axe trailer ASAP - can’t wait!!
Hello Games is a far too talented Studio that should be one of Microsoft’s main acquisition targets
In addition, they make games with very good monitoring and respect the players, just like Microsoft’s service games, it’s a perfect feat and they bring a touch of creativity and additional community to Gamepass.

I’ve been thinking about it for years
I do not think what we have seen from Sega are the super games that were rumored. I see that as an initiative to revive the Arcade spirit of the Dreamcast with 3D/2D games that could have a very good life on Gamepass.
Unrelated, but the FTC is now investigating the 49% ownership Microsoft bought in OpenAI. The CMA is reviewing it to see if it is a relevant merger scenario. Both announced today. But the agency dont collude
I’m curious how they can view that as a merger.
As Microsoft only owns a minority interest in a seperately owned company. They have no controlling interest or say over the day to day operation of Open Ai
Me neither, they seem like different projects. It just makes me more excited that we might be seeing more from them soon .
Yeah… very coincidental.
Well the FTC has investigated investments before and required investments to be undone before. I think there was a case where the largest cigarette manufacturer bought a big stake in a vaping company and they required that be divested. I dont see that the CMA has.
They are a tiny little studio too, I think around 30 employees. I imagine Xbox could pick them up without meeting any regulator threshold.
They are still that small while supporting NMS and building that new game?
One source suggests they increased to 51 employees in 2023 but I can’t find anything to verify it.
Pretty impressive eh?
Sure is, lol
The EU commission are also now rumored to be on the verge of investigating.
I dont have a problem with them regulating AI. It needs it. However its not the deals that need regulated its the technology. Regulations need passed that provide guard rails.
I trust the EU, the only adult in the room. The other 2 clowns? Nope.
Can we keep the FTC/CMA garbage in the community thread or somewhere else? I’m not sure it’s fitting in here as OpenAI has not been an acquisition at this point and the FTC situation with ABK is a complete non-story (the bar they would have to surpass to accomplish, literally anything, is one that the FTC will not be able to achieve, period - every legal scholar has said as much now and during the original case).
What’s crazy is that it’s one of the most ambitious Studios in the industry and probably the one with the best procedural technologies, they are an important acquisition with their technology
Now that ABK is part of the family, let’s see what acquisitions Microsoft could make to double in size without being stopped by regulators. As a reminder, Microsoft wants to double its revenues in gaming by 2030. I have selected studios which will provide real added value (IP/Creativity) and which will cover all the needs of the Xbox catalog. I selected only one publisher: SEGA. Not all studios will join Xbox but it shows that there are really interesting opportunities to expand the family without making “huge” acquisitions.
- SEGA
- IOI
- Eidos
- Crystal Dynamics
- Gearbox
- Asobo
- Certain Affinity
- Don’t Nod
- Thunderful Games
- People Can Fly
- Crytek
- Remedy (or Frictional Games/Red Barrels)
- Rebellion
- Iron Galaxy
- Platinum Games (or Cyberconnect2)
- Stoic (or Supergiant Games)
- Frontier
- Neowiz
With so many opportunities, the future of Xbox looks more exciting than ever.
You are totally right.
What happened with Open AI is quite frightening, after investigation. The board wanted to slow down to make AI safe and secure, and the boss wanted to go all about sales and making money as fast as possible. In the end, the people who wanted it to be secure have lost and the boss has been reinstalled.
You can think what you want about AI in general, but this rush to money is not what I call reassuring.
