Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

I don’t see anyone touching Ubisoft until their performance is in a much better place.

Ubisoft has like 20,000 employees and generates the same amount of revenue as Sega that has less than 4,000 employees.

Why would you go after Ubisoft when you could prioritize just about any other publisher that is vastly more efficient?

I would only touch them if you can buy IPs and studio attached to it.

Phil Spencer probably: ‘announce the pending acquisition of Ubisoft and Sega at the same time.’

I absolutely adore Sega but they dont release many games per year and what they do are mostly developed externally. Ubisoft however release loads and it’s all in house.

If a new owner could give them some financial relief to explore their creativity again they could get back to this:

Imagine Xbox releasing additional 80-90 Metacritic games every 3-6 months, it would change Xbox’s perspective quite drastically. Yes it would be a massive uphill battle but the potential is incredible (I’d argue more than Sega - which I equally want).

GamePass would become untouchable in terms of subscription services.

Not trying to throw hate or anything but I thing most of us should accept that xbox is always going to do the most unexpected thing, we can all cheer up for sega or ubisoft and then they will end buying someone like pearl abyss or koei tecmo, for example in my opinion square enix isnt worth it but xbox could see potential on them and thats why is cool to discuss that possibilities that each publisher brings to the table

Ironically Koei Tecmo from my understanding isn’t doing that well, so maybe Microsoft will want them. I guess that would be one way to get Gust games on Xbox.

Looks at all those Dynasty/Samurai Warrior games dropping into Gamepass

I think the rights to the Prince of Persia belongs to the original owner Joran Mechner probably why Ubisoft started the Assassins Creed franchise. I do agree though the IPs here are not that great other than the Clancy IPs especially since Microsoft already has a ton of IPs that are similar. What Ubisoft has to offer is mainly the staff. Staff like there’s could push out games quickly if well-funded but I just don’t see Microsoft adding that much workforce when they still have ambitions for more acquisitions. Gaming alone would end up taking almost half of Microsoft’s staff and layoffs would be a no go. If they could buy the Massive team that worked on the Division and now working on Star Wars Outlaws that would be good.

Pearl Abyss would be great as they are into MMOs and large open world games. They could easily work with Blizzard to bring their games up to date quickly and they have lots of games with potential. KOEI TECMO is also good, but I think Sega satisfies some of the games they can get here also since the original team Ninja left, they haven’t been able to recreate that Ninja Gaiden magic. I just think Microsoft might want to focus a bit less in the west and more in the east for now.

I need to ask but whats your thoughs on getting namco? I dont think ms is intetested in their anime and toys division but just like ubisoft they could easily bring several games to gamepass

Yeah, I don’t think their IPs mesh well with Microsoft because Tom Clancy, The Crew, Far Cry, and a few others doesn’t fill a missing void. However, something like Assassin’s Creed would be huge and same with Watch Dogs. However, I think there’s way too many studios and bodies to manage to make it worth it. However, they do have some talented studios, but I think Microsoft is better off going after certain studios like IOI, Crystal, Eidos Montreal, etc.

Koei is doing fine IDK where you heard that. Things on them are usually silent on Western gaming communities because out of all JP publisher their sales are by far the most skewed in sales for Asia : West.

I like Koei Tecmo a lot but I would say MS is (ironically) not looking for JP games that are only big in Asia. Their talent is also often used making games for other publishers as well which I assume stops under MS (other pubs might not want their contracted game on GP and also 2 of their “customers” are Nintendo and Sony). Their biggest most “AAA” game will be Rise of the Ronin and it’s going to be permanently exclusive to Playstation.

For Koei Tecmo I guess MS should just keep trying to make “Switch/PS/PC” a bygone thing with them although that’s a struggle because of the previously mentioned “mainly only big in Asia” games. Their upcoming games section on their financials had a lack of Xbox (can’t be helped for the last 2 games, Sony published title and mobile game)

I consider Koei Tecmo I’m a worse place than the other Japanese publishers because they are going to companies like Sony and EA to publish their games instead of doing it on their own.

It would be unheard of for Capcom or Sega to be releasing games under EA Originals.

I don’t recall them on the list. They seem to be setting themselves up to be like the biggest publisher in Japan much like ABK. Honestly, I can’t say I know much about them, but I do think they are one of the best managed publishers around. They also seem to have a good eye for solid properties. Their upcoming MMO Blue protocol could be the Genshin rival or better and according to Wikipedia they are less than a thousand staffed. They certainly would be a great get but they are doing so well I doubt they would want to sell. They would certainly be my choice and remind me of the Sega of old. However, I believe with Sonic Microsoft could do something really big and Bandai doesn’t have this. I know it sounds crazy, but I think Xbox might have bigger plans for the Sonic IP and it could perhaps be that comes to be their mascot or perhaps it’s just my imagination. I do think if Namco was open, it will be the better buy as Sega will take a while to get up and running as in the past, but Namco and Capcom are there now.

I am not sure if xbox is going to make plans with sonic but I am sure he will be used a lot to support gamepass in marketing aswell yakuza and persona, I just hope they will give enough support to sonic team to go more ambitious with their next games, but to be fair I dont think sega is interested on being acquire any time soon

Disagree with Division (how valuable you think it is), Ghost Recon and Hasbro could definitely be a yes. Especially in gamepass.

I don’t know if Sonic team is that talented there are devs with less resources that have done better. To me I think their vision is just not great for the character just look at what Sonic prime on Netflix and the movie have been able to do with the IP. It would be best to give it to some other studio if the Ori studio weren’t in a mess now, they would have been my first bet. Other Sega IPs don’t carry the name like Sonic does. It has to start there.

Tbh I prefer to give more chances to sonic team, sure there is other developers that has done better games with less resources but they didnt had the same vision as sonic team does, sonic frontiers needed more time imo

Thinking about xbox having plans for sonic was interesting, is a franchise that still holds power, maybe sega can acquire arzest and dimps to make spinoffs of it while sonic team works on the next entry, I would love to see dimps making a brand new sonic rush, but when it comes to moon studios I am not sure, afterall they decided to burn their relationship with xbox, maybe artplay could make a good sonic game with the metroidvannia style

Also when it comes to other franchises I think they should let platinum join the sega family because afterall thats where most of their ips are, then like I have said before grounding inc would be a good fit for the future of panzer dragoon aswell a phantom dust sequel having Yukio Futatsugi back as the director, I dont think that camelot is going to be acquired but they should make a deal to work on a new shining force, arc system works could make a persona 5 fighting game just like persona 4 or even a brand new virtua fighter, and lastly there is M-two inc which I have talk about before, is a new studio made by ex platinum developers and so far they have only helped with resident evil 3 remake, apparently they are working in another remake for capcom

Anyways thats some of the developers I wish sega could work with in the future, I still think square would be the best option to attract several external developers in japan but who knows which will be the next target for xbox

Sonic team has had this franchise since the Dreamcast and have yet to make a great game especially when compared to Mario. The vision for a great game is simply not there even if they get huge funding which they did during the 360 gen. This is just like 343 for the longest time until management was changed. Sonic isn’t even big or popular in Japan. If anything let other developers have a crack at it.

Sonis has a franchise has potential but isn’t really popular. The games do a little well nothing big. I think with Microsoft promoting EDGE as very fast that tag line works with Sonic also the HEDGEHOG aka EDGEHOG name works well, and the symbol is quite similar in shape and color. I think having Sonic on a billion computers as an avatar could catapult the fame. Moon studios is just an example of what some devs can do. If Moon studios did Sonic, they would probably do it a lot differently. I’d probably prefer Double fine over Dimps as you need a studio that is full of imagination. Platinum would be a good get and agree with the rest. You should check the below video. There is an interview with Yukio and hints something. Well, Sonic Frontiers is the best-selling 3D Sonic, it’s a commercial success for SEGA, and the game got very good reviews from gamers. Comparing it to Mario makes no sense, Mario is in another dimension, even at Playstation there is no equivalent. Ratchet probably sold a lot less than Sonic, and yet it’s a great game. The Murder of Sonic was also very well received, Sonic Team seems to be heading in the right direction. I’m more mixed for Sonic Superstar, the game is developed by Arzest (Balan Wonderworld), which is not very reassuring. But who knows, if it works, Arzest could perhaps be considered to join SEGA. So, yeah, I disagree that Sonic isn’t popular. The license is selling well. Watch the success of movies at Paramount. Sonic is always popular with the public.
