Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

Remedy would be another big one but I dought it would happen

Absolutely, I hope they do move on some of these before they’re all gone. The only other ‘potential’ acquisition is Rocksteady however MS would also want the DC IP’s.

T2 would never let go of Rockstar and EA would never let go of Respawn etc.

If I remember well focus appear in those lists that leaked during the abk case, I think it would be a nice addition with asobo to expand in europe, I can see embracer selling some of their studios for a good price but I am not sure about ubisoft

I would love the idea of xbox buying their ips such as splinter cell, driver and especially RAYMAN but I doubt thats going to happen, thats one of the reasons why I would love to see ubisoft being the next one

I personally would want Ubisoft but I know why others wouldn’t.

A Driver reboot would be massive! I played that to death back in the day.

Yes they could keep publishing DQ to all platforms but that’s not because of choice and that will cause problems down the road. Buying SE for 5b+ without owning their 2nd and 3rd best selling franchises is crazy even for Microsoft. That’s like buying ABK and Bobby K owns COD and Google owns WoW lol.

Me to, I prefer sega a lot more but ubisoft has a ton of potential, also isnt like people where hoping to see a abk acquisition haha, microsoft is going to buy publishers that make sense for their business and I think ubisoft fit well, all those studios supporting big projects aswell helping with several ips would be great for xbox, the question is if microsoft wants more than 20,000 developers more

Yes especially after taking on over 17,000 from ABK, I do feel they fit well too and Ubisoft have more locations around the world than any other publisher I can think of (helps global expansion).

I agree, when it comes to expansion around the world is clear that ubisoft is one of the best options, there is many things xbox could do having ubisoft under their umbrella, like I have said many times before I would love seeing ubisoft milan making new rayman games(or even banjo) meanwhile ubisoft montpellier gets freedom from the development hell of beyond good and evil 2 aswell ubisoft sigapore from skull and bones

Well, SEGA + Ubisoft would probably be the ideal scenario for Xbox, but I doubt the authorities would allow Ubisoft’s acquisition. If that happened, it would be a big win for Xbox. SEGA and Ubisoft have been great Xbox partners for years. It would make sense to see them join the family. SEGA must be a priority. Then they can try to acquire Ubisoft. It will be a long fight. There are also other interesting options. I’m curious about their strategy.

I agree, both have a history of working with xbox, I know the regulators treat ubisoft like one of the biggest publishers alongside ea and take 2 but I dont think they have ips that sell like fifa or gta, I am not sure if all the buzz around abk was because of their price aswell cod or because their number of employees, I think sega should be the next one without a doubt but who knows, if they get ubisoft somehow then we will see new content constantly on gamepass

Ubisoft would be a nightmare to navigate. Also having studios worldwide could mean regulatory approvals on a global scale and that could be another long process. It would be better to invest in Ubisoft and have controlling stake to direct them.

Well I dont disagree with you, is clear that it will be a longer process if they go for ubisoft aswell it will take years to fix its problems but xbox went for abk so anything could happen except invest, microsoft wants to own a developer, not invest in them, I just think ubisoft could be a neat addition with all their power to make several games every year

For full context in case anyone else cares, they did apparently think they were valuable in 2019 (and sought an acquisition; “Project Phoenix”) but by the time the 2021 documents were being made, they no longer appeared on the shortlist.

My own editorializing is that Bethesda was probably satisfying most of what they wanted out of SE.

FWIW, investments if a certain size also go through regulatory approval in pretty sure.

ABK is coming with about 17,000 staff adding another 22,000 plus to it is crazy. I don’t think Microsoft will consider it. Ubisoft might be best for Sony if they intend to compete and get something before the likes of Amazon come in. I think Microsoft need to focus on Asia get Sega and one more publisher in South Korea and leave it at that. Beyond that let the publishers acquire. ABK can go for Crytek and XGS can go for Certain Affinity, Crystal D and Eidos. Ubisoft could for the time work as contractors for hire. The massive team could be given the Halo property to do an MMO lite game or a third person campaign in the vein of Star Wars outlaws.

It certainly won’t be the headache level of ABK and Xbox won’t have to suffer while approval is sought.

Well I think it would be a good idea to, afterall sega has helped xbox with halo wars 2 aswell age of empires 4 and if the rumors are true namco would be working on a new killer instinct, seems like xbox is open to work with a big publisher to work on their ips and ubisoft could definitely help several games with support, your idea of having ubisoft massive ln a halo mmo sounds great tbh, still I think it would be cool to see them joining the family even if it takes years to complete the acquisition, I support sega more than others publishers but after bethesda and abk is clear that the next acquisition is going to be unexpected

I am just trying to be open mind and see the different possibilites that each publisher and/or developer could bring to the table and the idea of just making a partnership is worth to discuss aswell, is rare how xbox hasnt published a single game from koei tecmo, I though they had a good relationship again, sony still get games from them, hell even ea got one to

Its possible. If Alan wake 2 doesn’t move units and another game not names max Payne doesn’t . Then I think it’s possibility

Thanks for reminding me how fucked that game is:

  • On Xbox: players will still be playing Starfield and then you have Forza a week before its release.

  • On PS: Sony will obviously dedicated all its marketing power on Spiderman 2.

  • On PC: The game is exclusive to the Epic store so fair to say it will have small visibility. They will still play Starfield, BG3 and apparently this is the biggest platform for racing game so there’s Forza in the equation but Citizen Skylines 2 will also launch this month on the 24th (so a week later) AND on steam so you know this will be the game that steam will push on the front page.

And Mario wonders launch during those weeks so they will be competing whit Starfield, Forza, Spidey, Mario wonders and pray to God COD MW 3 doesn’t star ramping up its marketing cycle during those weeks too…
