Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

I really wish you all would stop saying “the Xbox community only wants Sega” as if we’re an island, considering Xbox themselves had Sega at their top priority. Seriously, it’s fine if some of you don’t like Sega but it’s clear those of us that are in the same company as Xbox leadership.

When did Xbox say Sega is a top priority?

It’s been discussed to death since it was revealed during the FTC case, this is NOT a debatable point when it’s a matter of public record.

Yes. The point of game pass aside from being a recurrant revenue model is to increase the floor for all games that launch there. You sticl GTA6 on there day one and all your game pass launches are going to be that much bigger.

Embark just became a target with The Finals. Thats yet another game that will be huge on multiple devices and its easy to build season into

Would probably be with Xbox right now if ABK didn’t become such an opportunity which is a bit of a shame but ABK was simply too huge to pass up so you can’t really blame them

Owned by Nexon and I don’t think they have any reason to sell unlike Embracer and their studios.

Exactly besides this are multiplayer games.

Yeah that’s a good point about profitability and the jump in revenues that these sorts of acquisitions would make in contrast to something like SEGA which benefits Game Pass more than anything.

With the change to Nadella’s compensation, tied to revenue / profitability rather than Game Pass subs, I see merit in this.

Though I don’t see it happening I understand the logic.

who’s in Poland

CD Projekt and People Can Fly would be the biggest independents there.

Other notable Polish devs include 11 Bit Studios, CI Games and Flying Wild Hog.

Yeah and some more like: Bloober, Farm 51, Rebel Wolves, Techland. Theres also a bunch of CD Projekt Red (Im aware of at least a half dozen) spinoff studios that havent released games quite yet.

Poland/Eastern Europe and Asia should be a priority if they want to get more studios. There are a lot of potential talents( even outside East Asia), that could rival devs here in the west, if provided with the resources they need . Also, incubation programs in India, MENA, Africa, and South America would be good too if they want that worldwide reach.

Beyond video games, I had fun imagining the big acquisitions that Microsoft could make to become the king of entertainment:

  • SEGA
  • CDPR
  • Warner Bros Discovery
  • Middle-earth Enterprises (LOTR)
  • EON Productions (James Bond)
  • The Lego Group
  • Spotify
  • Discord
  • Asus or Steam

This is not a prediction as there is no indication that Microsoft is interested in most of these companies, but it would be an interesting expansion that would allow them to compete with Apple and Amazon in other industries. I like the idea, and the synergy between these companies is interesting.

I think a lot of you don’t realize how much work ABK is going to be. They are considerably larger then all the studios they had before. Ive actually been part of some Aquisitions (not in gaming) and after 2 years at the soonest is when things start coming together. Not just that but Matt Booty is now handling Bethesda and Xbox game studios and has a lot on his plate.

I think it will be 2+ years before another publisher. We are close enough to the election where Microsoft will probably wait to see if the current administration changes. If it does getting another publisher will be much easier.

Until then i see them getting individual studios as they are easier to get through.

Making all the games Xbox exclusive is an immediate benefit in the least.

They will act on opportunity. Timelines be damned.
