I don’t even think Microsoft would buy CDPR if they had the chance, they take forever. They graphics are good but not something that many can’t do or surpass which is why I included Crytek. I also think CDPR gameplay is just pretty awful. Gunplay is just OK and the fighting in Witcher was the same. I do though like the way they make titles that are more cinematic and relevant to the entertainment media.
Agreed.
I’ve seen some great lists and I agree with you 100%. These studios could make great games with Xbox:
- Asobo
- Remedy
- IOI
- Eidos
- Crystal Dynamics
- Certain Affinity
- People Can Fly
- Gearbox
- Rebellion Developments
- Crytek
- Don’t Nod
It would be a big win for Xbox if they joined the family. I think they are capable of developing the big budget action/adventure games that Xbox needs. From my point of view, it would be an acquisition almost as interesting as the acquisition of a publisher. There are some big names on this list, and I’d love to see them reach the next level with Xbox.
And to come back to CDPR. I think this is the kind of mega studio that could make the difference. I’m playing Phantom Liberty and I think there are few studios that can deliver such great games. There’s little chance of that happening, but if an acquisition opportunity arises I hope Microsoft seizes it.
I think this is a pretty good list to have several AAA games released each year, just see the output of asobo, some of them could go the same route as IOI and dotnod by releasing their games in large chapters, after seeing gameplay of that new robocop game I need rebellion to work on a Judge Dredd title
They need to learn how to work together with the other studios aswell, is clear that the initiative will work closely with eidos and crystal dynamics
so when do people thing the deal will close?
Yes, a Judge Dredd game developed by Rebellion would be really cool. I think the studio would be happy to have the budget to work on this. The Judge Dredd universe seems interesting enough to me to be developed into video games. I think it might be similar to The Chronicles of Riddick games which came out a few years ago and were very good games. A dark and cinematic universe that would have its place on Xbox. This would also be an opportunity to change the engine by switching to Unreal Engine 5 and benefiting from the support of The Coalition. They could even take gameplay inspiration from Gears of War which could work with a Judge Dredd game.
I am not sure if changing to unreal is necessary because the coalition helped 343 and the initiative with support before, but anyways the idea of a judge dredd game inspired by gears of war sounds amazing
Talking about it I think they should go for more studios that make cinematic adventure games, eidos and cd are helping with fable, perfect dark and south of midnight but why stop there, I think they could go for thats no moon, gravity wells, or supermassive games, having all of them sharing their experience making those games could improve their development
Assuming you mean the ABK deal, then it is likely next week.
But when should we expect to see their games on gamepass(besides cod)
I hope xbox will port some of their games to pc like crash team racing or the tony hawk pro skater remakes
Huh, just look at that, It could only mean that Square will be the next to be bought
Ok I am kidding but is nice to see xbox being a close partner with sega just like old times https://twitter.com/HazzadorGamin/status/1710155144430821715
Indeed, but they would need to improve the Asura engine to develop a cinematic game up to par.
This is the way. But let’s be careful, they already teased SEGA before the acquisition of Bethesda and ABK lol
They’ve teased Sega like forever that it would be a crime not to go for them. Both enjoy the teasing and with Super games not starting well they may just take the ring. I don’t know that Sega has the money to take chances anymore.
SEGA always felt like something that fans were trying to will into existence but now feels almost like an inevitability
It’s went from a close relationship since the gen started, to them covering everything Xbox wants/needs in Japanese content, family friendly, pc, mobile to them having actual emails and drafts made up for buying them
It’s just an acquisition that ticks all the boxes to the point that id say it’s more likely to happen than not
I couldn’t agree more. Microsoft considered acquiring Bungie and Sega, internal emails show - The Verge We know Xbox were waiting for approval and might still be trying to acquire Sega. All these teases show they are still interested. The question will be if Sega is interested.
Worth remembering - Microsoft has made nods to Sega but they’re never actually going to tease a multi-billion dollar acquisition.
Yes, gaming is growing worldwide. For clarity, I should have specified that when it comes to the Asian gaming market I believe Japan, South Korea and China are the top three projected growth markets.
If Microsoft has the means to make multiple moves in a relatively short amount of time (yes), then a combination of something like Sega and NCsoft could make sense.
I would love the see the reactions of poeple if/when Satya and Phil say something along the lines of:
“We have said multiple times we are not done yet in the acquisition space and we would like to improve Xbox position in Asian markets”
Oh God the amount of fear and speculation that would create is delicious
Considering how things have played out I just don’t see SEGA happening but man if it did happen I would be crying tears of joy.
Like a happy cry, but the tears would be flowing.
People will look at me and say hey what’s wrong with that guy but man if you experienced the Dreamcast days and the death of SEGA as a console manufacturer you know what I’m talking about.
