That’s true, the series has lost a lot of its identity from the move from menus to real time combat. Not to mention they basically told PC and Xbox owners to fuck off with their mainline games.
The core old school Final Fantasy fans like myself hated All the mainline FF game since FF13. FF15 was bad and FF16, IMO is so far from a FF game. FF16 is worse. It’s not even a FF game anymore. It’s just another action adventure game. Role playing aspect are gone.
Squre need to go back to turn-based combat and more role playing parties aspect for FF17.
There’s been what 12 turnbased final fantasy games let the new generation of action RPG take over but actually make it an RPG instead of one playstyle 16 years probably not doing as well because one it’s not on PS4 where a good portion of Japanese audiences second a good portion of them are also on switch hella a lot of them are on there switches out doing both the Xbox and PlayStation and Man it’s not on PC or Xbox
Or, we could let other games do that and we can continue playing the style of game we fell in love with and enjoy. Imagine if someone said “Halo’s had what, 10 games in first person? Let the new generation of isometric shooters take over”.
Don’t do that let a franchise evolve and change you can still have an RPG without it being turn base That’s what I’m saying they lean too much action into this one and again it’s still a good final fantasy game final fantasy is more than it’s combat
To me, the turn based aspect of the franchise is why I liked it to begin with. Outside of the turn based combat and the explorable open world, there really isn’t much that makes a Final Fantasy game a “Final Fantasy Game”. The stories don’t really connect or carry over and every game is different. I would argue there’s no reason any of these games actually have a reason to be called “Final Fantasy”. They could have slapped Final Fantasy onto Forspoken for example and no one would have known any different.
I honestly stopped liking FF after 9 anyway, because that’s when they started getting rid of all the things I liked about the franchise. I’m not crying about it, but I don’t like the “eat shit old man” style of comments from people who like the newer Final Fantasy games or from the people who simply don’t like turn based rpg’s.
It is what it is and I hope the people who like the newer games enjoy them, because I sure won’t.
Honestly it is what it is but honestly that’s what I want from the franchise to evolve into change because we can’t have the same shit over and over and over again and they complain about it there’s only certain ways you can go about certain combat or certain gameplay aspect for you feel like you want to change it That’s what I feel like square wants to do I hear 16 is really good game I’ll play it when it eventually does come to PC but the whole is eat shit old man I understand that but I’m going to be pretty honest most of the people I say that to are like that they’re just mad because things change no disrespect though
It would be great if sega decided to go back to their jrpgs, a brand new shining force, skies of arcadia and phantasy of star, imagine a remake of panzer dragoon saga
I don’t want KI to become something like Smash Bros. I want to see the KI roster be overwhelmingly original to the series, with a handful of guest characters.
Crash Team Racing is another matter entirely. Go nuts.
I agree with you although they could have some guest characters like mortal kombat has done lately with their dlc, I wonder if xbox is interested on making their own crossover game similar to smash, ludosity(nasb) or first player games(multiversus) could do a great job although I dont think is necessary to have a platform fighting game, they could do a kart title, or even something similar to powerstone
Dude, I have been hoping to see camelot going back to shining force after years of just mario tennis and golf, is clear golden sun isnt going to comeback
I think I would actually cry a little if they ever made another Shining Force and it wasn’t an abomination. I don’t think there’s another game that would elicit that kind of reaction from me.
I just realized we’re in the acquisition thread, so, um, I think they should acquire SEGA and set these teams free.
There is a ton of possibilities for those studios aswell for sega partners, with more support I could see the return of several ips aswell seeing those studios taking a different approach like we have seen with obsidian and tango, thats one of the reasons why I suggested ubisoft aswell
The thing is most of the devs and team that did these games seem to have left Sega. Today’s Sega is far different from the one on the Dreamcast where they were full of creativity. Microsoft would need to acquire some studios to help Sega with the rpgs. Would love to see those rpgs come back would even like to see a triple A Shenmue the last one was terrible.

This is the second or third time I’ve read of Embracer shutting down or restructuring studios. I hope Xbox goes after specific studios and IP within embracer. They could go after as many as 9 or 10 really good smaller studios and pay less than 3 billion for the entirety and get a ton of back content for game pass, and some really good IP. Just to be clear not the whole of Embracer but just cherry pick, they are clearly having some financial issues.
In my opinion they should go for: purple lamp, gunfire games, 4a games, crystal dynamics, eidos, and blackforest games, I wonder if that cancelled deal was with xbox
I was curious of that also, perhaps it was a game pass deal or potentially some studio acquisitions, we will probably never know, purple lamp is a new one for me I’ll have to look them up thanks
Someone saying they aren’t interested in an acquisition means nothing. Bungie vehemently denied being in talks of an acquisition or wanting one right up until the day it was announced they were acquired by sony. So someone saying they aren’t interested in acquisitions is a meaningless statement. As they would never say anything else. Even if they were interested.
larian is also privately held company so by acquiring there isn’t a risk of losing people as the people who would profit from it aren’t the same people making the games. So your not at risk of a talent drain by an acquisition as the talent doesn’t have stock.
Plus the talent is worth more then the IP. As without a great ip you can still make a great game but without great talent you can’t make a good game. Microsoft has plenty of IP
This. We would know…
