Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

I think similar to what @Rando said, in that it would be an ideal scenario to cherry pick, however the buying company will always want the crown jewel, whereas the selling company can’t afford to let it go.

Realistically most companies will only sell their assets if they don’t think they hold value anymore or they are trying to raise funds. In this case it would be the latter so selling off their crown jewels would only mean their own companies collapse sooner.

It would be like ABK selling off Call of Duty & King.

Blizzard Shaghai, official partnership with Netease. Surprised some here forgot about those two things.

If i were Xbox i would be making a clear investment with the Wuchang Team as it feels like their game is gonna come with big numbers and that could work well into Xbox favor down the line. That and working with Game Studios that are expertd on the gacha game genre would be a very smart idea as well, Genshin Impact is seeing many players coming in i could say that it would be smart of Xbox to help make this games ready to be available on Xbox as soon as possible.

I’d love to see them pick up promising teams and IP that would otherwise be downsized or shuttered.

I’m even good with Xbox doing more things like Ninja Gaiden 4 where they’re simply trying to make a game happen even without owning the IP.

Either route leads to more games on as many screens as possible and further diminishes stupid fucking console wars.

The downloads are similar to what most use on consoles. It’s not like Halo has 20 million active players or that SOT or Forza Horizon 5 has 40 million active players. A lot of those are just downloads from Game Pass. In any case even if we use MAU some of this are still the biggest in the industry.

Amy Hood as already made it clear they are and will be focusing on high margin profit growth and as said they expect hardware to be flat. They are deliberately not flooding the market with hardware like PlayStation and Nintendo as they’re trying to mitigate the 100-to-200-dollar loss per console. This is just like the OG Xbox when they were losing 150 dollars per box. Their push right now is PC and cloud.

Well said. Just look at what Pearl Abyss has been able to do in a short time. Crimson Tide looks phenomenal, and Doke V looks like it’s set to eat the Pokémon lunch. Like I said a small south Korean publisher like :: BLUESIDE :: will be a good get.

I think it’s more my idealistic side hoping for a different avenue.

If it were just a numbers game of Ubisoft’s low market value and the treasure trove of IP available, then it’s an easy agreement. But knowing they have nearly 20K employees in the balance of it all just makes me want to turn away and hope for the best outcome for all those people.

I mean the realistic best case senario would probably be with a company with best benefits when fired cos odds are they won’t be staying in any universe most likely but it is the downside of being so incredibly bloated so better feel safe in thinking they are released with good benefits and referals rather than with nothing, it is once again a case of the devil you know though

If we are talking on Ubisoft though, this is how I would restructure them

In Forza Horizon you can look at the in-game leaderboard and see that number of players who have engaged with the game to get far enough along in the campaign to make it into the “hall of fame”. The in-game counter was only slightly below the official released numbers by around a million the last time they put out an official statement.

I think that Microsoft will have a very hard time acquiring European companies in the near future if current political trends are any indication.

I disagree, if anything I think you could argue trump could make it easier simply because he is far more agressive meaning if he felt American business was being treated unfairly he would apply the same standards along side insane tarrifs, say what you will on trump but he isn’t a push over. This being I don’t think he would care much about gaming but still I don’t see politics getting to much in the way

I love to see Xbox get Ubisoft but like some have said maybe Xbox is big enough now and doesn’t need more studios.

I don’t care at this point unless game pass gets a PlayStation version and even then I am very burned from ABK. I supported them for 2 years of legal proceedings just for them to abanon xbox and even more of a back stab for them to still of barely added any old ABK games to game pass, but I also think Microsoft isn’t done with gaming and wants continue expansion into mobile and thinks its better to buy what they want now instead of being in an arms race in maybe 5 years if google, amazon, facebook, tencent ect. all these massive tech or chinese congomorates decide to become agressive in gaming + if a good oppitunuity passes them like Ubisoft presently it is hard to imagine they would completely ignore it even if they ultimately don’t go for it.

Same logic with WB Games currently as Ubisoft and WB Games feel like their just delaying the inevitable, both feel like its a matter of time before they are sold off or even just get shut down/go bankrupt. Ubisoft feels like they will be acquired by either Tencent or Microsoft IMO (Granted a part of me thinks Amazon, EA or maybe sony could also make a move on them if Tencent and Microsoft don’t). As for WB games I would guess Microsoft, Sony or EA, this might just be my gut but unless EA is acquired 1st due to their declining stock I feel like they will make a notable acquisition of some kind within the next year or 2 to try and compete with T2 after their merger with Zynga and bought gear box making them take EA’s crown as the most valuable 3rd party publisher post ABK acquisition

I feel the ABK deal was the worst thing ever to happen to Xbox

In retrospect yah but it also could be argued to just of sped up the inevitable but it is hard to say for certain. I just want a game pass port to PS even if watered down at this point

I don’t think it really changed their trajectory. As Phil said in his memo to the Xbox division when it wasn’t clear if ABK would close, getting ABK doesn’t change their strategy, it just accelerates it.

Since Xbox was promoted to a growth pillar in 2017 they’ve been talking about Xbox everywhere, on any device possible. Phil even name dropped PS4 and iPhone as devices where more first party games could end up in effort to reach billions of gamers.

How they get to as many players as possible are just details.

I disagree The deal changed a lot of things not least the way the games are added to GamePass

This is the last warning some of you are going to get: keep the discussions on topic and keep your tirades to the multiplatform thread.

Well back on acquisition discussion, Since we were talking about who seems most likely I just threw this together how likely I think an acquisitions are. I did list Konami twice for a reason cos it is the question of would Konami accept a trade for Sammy if MS bought SEGA for their gaming division so it rides on Microsoft buying SEGA too and wanting to make that trade. This is kind of where my head is at. Also a company being lower down doesn’t neccerarily mean I think I believe Microsoft doesn’t want to buy them but also I think its less likely to happen due to potential legal road blocks e.g. regulators or I just don’t they want to sell. The best example of this is probably Capcom who I is the best company to buy from Japan ignoring Nintendo obviously who if Microsoft did scout around Japan would probably be one of their top targets but I think they wouldn’t want to sell, meanwhile I would say square would probably be the most willing to sell considering their history of almost selling. In all honesty by most metrics they should be ahead of SEGA but the fact we know Microsoft has seriously pursuide the idea edges them ahead but MS in 2019 wanted to buy them for Mobile so we know there is intrest in most key metric with Square & on top of that Final Fantasy 14 is a juggernaut, the biggest MMO in gaming if I am not mistaken

EA or T2 would make a lot of sense, sports games make way too much sense for Game Pass. Of course with both of those you get way more than just sports games and I don’t know if either of those go through.

I mean sports is a massive draw but they both have tons of other massively casual games. With take two you obvious get 2K Sports but you would also get rockstar games, boarderlands, mafia and now obvious a massive mobile publisher inn Zynga. With EA you would obviously get EA Sports but you would also get Battlefield, Apex Legends, the sims, skate, Dirt, F1, NSF ect. Plush a host of mobile games like plants v zombies, bejewled, zuma, golf clash and so on.

They are both very extensive with the casual and mobile crowd and with Microsoft now going 3rd party it kills most of the anti competitive arguments from the off set, the only one left standing is really cloud which with less agressive regulators now probably won’t be an issue
