It is!
It does feel like IP Acquisition maybe the next thing as AI is being pushed more in game development. I won’t be surprised to see Microsoft attempt to buy the SONIC IP.
UBI is in a similar spot to intel rn, where their value is actually lower than their fundamentals would imply. Speculation is what’s putting them at risk
The IP is very valuable but the number of employees in the company is a real problem. They have games that sell 10-20 million copies but they make little profit. That’s why no one wants to acquire them because it would mean cutting 50-60% of the employees and studios to be profitable. No one wants to have to make that decision. It’s sad because Ubisoft has incredible potential but they are slowly dying.
From what I remember the last time they reported the overall franchise numbers for Assassin’s Creed, they had sold over 200 million copies!
There’s very few franchises that have accomplished that, your typically talking about EA & 2K games (and Minecraft/CoD etc).
Throw in their other big franchises like Tom Clancy, Just Dance and FarCry and their IP is easily worth their stock value.
Yes, sales are very good, and most of their games systematically exceed 10 million copies sold. It’s impressive. Ubisoft is probably one of the best publishers on the market and one of those that sells the most games. Their real problem is the number of employees and poor management of the company. Without that it would probably be worth more than Capcom or Bethesda. The potential is enormous.
#sigh the unrealistic acquisition rumours have already started now that Trump has won:

The CMA and the EU still exist
The 47th President believes in Protectionism of American companies the CMA & EU can play around if they want.
Given how big a market the EU is, particularly for Microsoft (rather than Xbox) their verdict matters regardless of who’s in power in the US.
Apple even had to accept USB C and allow other app stores on iPhone because of the EU - and those twats don’t do anything unless they’re absolutely forced to
Absolutely, I can’t see Microsoft ever pushing through an acquisition in the US if it means they can’t trade in the EU and UK.
Seeing as how we’ve stemmed politics in other threads, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one - especially given the general vibe of the overwhelming community at the moment. Don’t be jerks, full stop and warning.
Sega is getting pretty lean these days.
I’m not sure how much of that is a good thing though
Odd goings on over there lately.
Think they overextended with the Rovio acquisition?
Possibly, also they’re feeling the post-COVID bubble especially hard
Now that Phil has said they want to acquire more, I would like them to acquire Coffee Stain studios/publisher.
I have been playing a lot of satisfactory recently and have come to really like their building systems. It made think of fallout and the settlement system and how much more potential there is, Bethesda improved a lot of the stuff in Starfield but it still isn’t anywhere as seamless and intuitive as it is in satisfactory. I think they could be of great help to Bethesda if they want to flesh out those systems more. Even if not, they are still a good studio on their own, satisfactory peaked at 180k on steam and goat simulator does pretty well too, also the publisher of Valheim.
Currently owned by Embracer, but l think they’d be willing to sell for the right price.
He did specifically call out Asia and Mobile
Sigh… I guess it will never end. Sega says hi, I suppose.
