I’m seeing surprising many tweets from people favoring Xbox to get all the WB studios, because that gives a much bigger chance of games staying multiplatform, because “look at how they handle Activision”, but the reality is they haven’t done anything because they can’t yet. People automatically assume that CoD definitely will never become exclusive and I’m not willing to die on that hill.
But between MS and Sony definitely MS is the more likely to keep games multiplatform, certain ones. And the simple fact that they offer several options, something really doesn’t at all. It’s their console or bust. They are supporting PC more and more, but I don’t think we’ll be looking at this becoming day and date anytime soon for them.
People who believe that Microsoft will keep Activision games multiplatform are in for the rude awakening. Gradually the reality will hit Playstation community hard. Especially when one day Satya will announce during the investor call that Xbox is the market leader. Just market leader, not quarterly.
Everything that surrounds Playstation, all the talking points right now are basically tied to “Playstation is the market leader”.
Not necessary. With shortage the posibility of it is relatively high. Even right now Xbox Series is not that behind Playstation. And we are not even in the half off the year.
If Xbox produces more consoles - and with the shortage market leader is literally the one who made the most consoles - Xbox will become a market leader.
So? USA and kinda Europe are the biggest markets out there. Satya said that Xbox was the market leader in sales during the last two quarters (in Europe, Commonwealth and USA), so when Xbox will surpass Playstation they will just say that Xbox is the market leader. How many quarters do you think Xbox needs to outsell Playstation? With enough consoles, one year - 4 quarters is enough. Especially in the situation where we know that some countries like Spain (or Portugal) had incredibly small amount of PS consoles delivered there.
All in all, we will see Sony quarterly reports to make some estimations as they will tell us the numbers. So far everybody assumes that Playstation is outselling Xbox like 1.5:1 or 1.7:1. But it is nothing but a belief as we don’t know the real numbers.
Literally why i bought the new xbox, there was and still isn’t any PS5’s available where i’m at,been very happy with it.
But the component shortage for the consoles is going to stop at some point and then we’ll see i guess.
Well if they do turn out to be selling the IPs too then I hope Xbox would go for Batman. But then the question would be…who is going to make the games? Rocksteady seems pretty done with Batman, so I guess WB Montreal would be left. Sony has the biggest Marvel character with Spidey and Xbox would have DCs biggest with Batman.
That’s just a wish of mine, don’t think it will happen.
By then the people who apparently only bought Xbox because they couldn’t get a playstation will likely stay in the ecosystem due to purchases they’ve made and GamePass
This. Microsoft will fulfill their contractual obligations as it’s easier and cheaper than going to court to try to void them out. Sony will get COD MW 2 later this year and Warzone 2 in 2023 and that’s it. They’re not getting anything else nor should they.
We own this company but let’s give our competition what we just bought!!! Like WTF???
I think the three games were 2020/2021/2022. If it included 2023, I don’t think they would have announced that there will be no COD in 2023. Warzone 2 could be part of the contract but I think it’s more that it will be free to play and probably released before the deal closes.
I don’t want to derail the thread so I’ll make the statement and leave it alone. CoD will stay multi platform. You don’t take a GaaS at the top of the top and handicap it, leaving a void for competition to fill. You leave it alone, stack money, and find other ways to make sure Xbox is the best place to play.
Along the same lines, if they buy Mortal Kombat it’ll stay multiplatform as well. Community is way too important for these games.
Someone needs to make a graph, with all the games that would come from buying all of WB Games, then release it, into the wild to scare some people and encourage Phil to make an offer too.
I haven’t seen the articles flying around. However WBDs goal is to cut 3 billion in annual overhead. So I’d suspect that the writers are misinformed or don’t have a grasp on business. This isn’t looking for a 1 time payout
I agree with Call of Duty, that franchise will stay multiplatform but all the marketing will be about Xbox, with only a brief mention of PS at the end of the trailers, maybe in really small.
But I don’t share the same sentiment with Mortal Kombat. If Xbox menages to get Netherrealm and the MK IP, the future games will be exclusive.
I’m of two minds with Netherrealm because their games are not nearly on the scale of Call of Duty so I could realistically see them making it exclusive, but at the same time a fighting game is pretty reliant on it’s player base so there’s a good argument for that as well. Personally I’d lean towards exclusive but I think much like CoD there’s merit to either option and we’d have to wait and see for any real conclusive answer.
