Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

ah, that makes sense, I just looked up 2nd party developers not long ago and they are behind the recent halo wars game, thanks

With all of the recent news of Moon Studios and them burning bridges with Microsoft, I think we can cross that one off the list. A lot of their (Mahler’s) more recent negative attitude towards MS makes a lot of sense now. Actually some of his attacks towards the Hollow Knight and No Man’s Sky developers are kinda making me think MS might have something there now.

I think Certain Affinity was tied to Leyou for a while, which is why MS hadn’t acquired them previously, and now they may want to see how Suerte does before opting to sell.

I think they still are, but they aren’t a majority owner. I guess it’s Tencent now.

Leyou owned 20%, with the right to purchase the rest. I have seen people hypothesize that the sale of Leyou to Tencent may have voided that latter part of the contract for Certain Affinity.

Not sure though.

I remember an article stating that the chance for Tencent to buyout Certain Affinity expired in 2020 or 2021 iirc.

Maybe Atooi might be someone to look into.

They own several IPs that they made for Nintendo systems, but what they really want to do is make another Dementium kind of game, called Kill Train.

So this would give MS a horror game for Game Pass.

What are dormant IPs that Xbox could acquire or partner with?

Didn’t they just do that with ABK? Basically anything not COD was borderline “dormant” if not dead.

Square Enix owns Legacy of Kain &Vagrant Story.

EA owns Syndicate & Ultima.

WB owns No One Lives Forever & Drakan.

Take Two owns Max Payne & SWAT.

Konami owns Castlevania & Far East of Eden.

Ubisoft owns Prince of Persia & Splinter Cell.

Capcom owns Breath of Fire & Dino Crisis.

Sega owns Panzer Dragoon & Skies of Arcadia.

Koei Tecmo owns Gitaroo Man & Fatal Frame.

Bandai Namco owns Enslaved & Venus & Braves.

All of these companies have many other great games, but I doubt any of the ones I listed has a sequel in development.

I was meaning more like Enslaved: Odyssey To The West, Monkey Island, Freedom Fighters, Fez, Mark of the Ninja, etc

That is a good list. I don’t think Microsoft would be able to get all of them but if they have no plans for a sequel it would be nice to see Xbox partner to get a sequel or revival of the series.

I know what you meant. I don’t understand why it’s any different. They just gained access to a huge trove of IP. Maybe they should focus on that and also letting teams work on what they want such as new IP instead of going out and getting more? It’s ok to be satisfied sometimes :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yeah even though MS will be getting a new library of possible IPs the re visit(Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawk) I don’t think we will see many revivals.

Even if they acquire other studios for their IP like Konami(MGS, Castlevania, Bomberman) MS just doesn’t really put most of their effort in reviving old franchises. Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark are the few times that old IP returns.

We’ve been waiting for a new Banjo and Conker for years and the closest thing we got was that weird Conker AR game that had a completely different art style.

Even studios they have acquired like Double Fine say they don’t want to work on old IP, “they aren’t a cover band”. Studios want to work on their stuff. So even if MS goes out and gets the perfect studio that can revive Banjo, it’s going to be tough to find a passionate team.

If it’s a struggle for Banjo imagine how much harder it will be for more obscure IP like Phantom Dust(rip sweet prince) and Spyro.

Will it take years for us to see another Crash, Spyro or Tony Hawk. One of my personal favorite ABK games is True Crime Streets of LA but like whos gonna build that? I have little hope I’ll ever see MS revive that IP.

Hope MS has a plan for all these properties that they will continue to get. They aren’t doing much with the big library they have now.

Disney owns Monkey Island now, and I sincerely doubt Disney would ever sell off IP.

Most importantly, I think people need to realize that it’s ok to leave things in the past, no matter how god they once were.

take two would be a dream but it will never happen because of zynga

the probable at this point for me are if the collaborations will go well

Crystal Dynamics / Edios

Paradox

Certain Affinity

what does zynga have to do with acquisition?

Take Two is in the process of acquiring Zynga for 12 billion or so, which somewhat complicates any potential purchase of Take Two for the immediate future and massively increases the cost of Take Two overall. It also potentially indicates their desire to be the ones doing the acquiring, rather than being open to being acquired. That said, none of this really stops an acquisition, especially with MIcrosoft showing interest in the casual/mobile market. Unless there was some belief that trying to own both Zynga and King would lead to some anti-trust issues, but given the scale of the mobile market that seems unlikely.

thats like saying activision would never happen because of king, Zynga definitely increase their value (if I had to guess, I would say $45 billion granted it could be more or less but around that feels about right) but saying it can’t happen is dumb

it has been proccessed, it went though in January this year

that wouldn’t really stop an acquisition but it would likely result in MS paying a higher premium assuming they were pursuing a buy out of take two which I think is likely
