Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Capcom also has the RE engine and a ton of talent pumping great games still. It would be another Bethesda like acquisition were they gain much more than what anyone would expect for the price.

Wasn’t aware of the reference, but the post was aimed at the community overall, as several members like to parade around that sentiment without sarcasm.

They will not stop until xbox do something?

Wishlist of Japanese devs if MS decided not to go big is

Platinum - action games

Arksystem - Fighting games highly stylized

Mistwalker - jrpgs

Together with Tango that’s a pretty diverse line up that pretty much makes a budget Capcom rival.

When these companies hit their strive they tend to put out highly praised games.

They should jump at this opportunity. Platinum Games is to BTA what Bethesda is to RPG. It’s a studio that masters the science of combat better than anyone else just playing games like Metal Gear Rising, Vanquish, Nier Automata, Bayonetta… They never had a decent budget for AAA and could not develop if this Studio reaches 400 people like Playground Games with support from other XGS and people who master the Unreal Engine 5… Platinum will be an incredible addition. in concrete terms, it’s a Studio with little engine talent, that’s why Scalebound was canceled. They couldn’t develop a game under Unreal Engine 4 of this ambition. But in terms of combat design there is no better than Platinum Games.

Would love Arksys and Mistwalker.

I never understand why Mistwalker is so high on some acquisition wish lists. Mistwalker is a design studio and pretty small. Sakaguchi and Uematsu are close to retirement as well.

Nihon, Vanillaware or NIS should be way higher on the list.

Yo tango working on a neat Japanese only mobile game. I wonder if MS is okay with the level of freedom, working on projects outside of consoles and game pass.

Would help entice more Japanese devs if they see the freedom devs get.

Also the article reminds of an important quote from Phil Spencer. When the acquisition for Bethesda was cleared he was most interested in seeing Tango GameWorks first. He always wanted a Japanese presence.

Capcom isn’t close to a Bethesda level acquisition. The only companies on the board that have that level of impact are Take 2, EA, Ubisoft, Square Enix, Embracer and obviously the other console makers.

Sans Monster Hunter, Capcom would be a low level publisher. It’s why they almost were out of business and looking to be bought before it was a hit.

Monster Hunter World on gamepass though hardly did numbers, it was never a top 5 game, so I really don’t think it would gain traction on Xbox unless gamepass was just an app on PS and Switch.

If Xbox wants to be a global brand then they should be thinking like a global brand. Consoles have been dying in Japan for ages. Mobile is the ticket there.

If they want a Japanese presence, having a successful mobile game from Tango will help towards that imo.

Capcom has a huge legacy in gaming, I don’t understand your point of view here, they created a genre in RE, made BIG names in fighting games, even today, and if they were almost out of business it was because they abandoned their roots for some time, and now are going back to it.

EA, Ubisoft and Square are all far away from the big names they were in the past, Capcom has been conquering ground and fans with each new release. They are doing so fine right now that no one thinks they’re going to sell, those others are another matter though…

Capcom is a legacy name that while not being huge in size, is absolutely massive in history, name and quality.

A lot of japanese studios are “one big person” studios essentially, bound to a single person. The only successful transition for now is RGC, but even then Nagoshi founded another studio with his name is the name. I think only Shinji Mikami is openly talking about nurturing future talents.

Mistwalker is bound essentially to that original author of Final Fantasy (forgot the name), KojiPro to Kojima, Platinum to Kamiya.

Arc System is too deep in bed with Sony at this point. And Sony going after marketing deals for other fighting games (I wonder what’s gonna happen with Street Fighter) leave Microsoft only to Bamco (Soul Calibur team) and Netherealm effectively at this point.

Should they though due to these antics that Kamiya and co. are doing bringing the discussion to the public?

Why wouldn’t they be? This is probably the smaller game they were working on. Could easily be folded into a mobile Game Pass.

I hope it comes to console or at least out of Japan at some point.

I think @AllianceOfficer doesn’t like Japanese games in general.

Xbox would need a fourth arm to handle all of Xbox’s asia business… In my opinion only bandai has the capabilities to do this. Buying Platinum so isolated could be a bad deal.

The only problem there is it being japanese only, however with the potential Mobile Game Pass or whatever it is called, if there is a successful mobile game it will benefit Microsoft (add some Mobile Game Pass perks like ad-free and so on).

Just put them under bethesda, they wouldn’t be isolated at all.

Watch Microsoft buy Platinum Games, only to see the members rooting for more japanese games be like:

I don’t really like Platinum games because they’re really inconsistent with their stuff, if they can get their shit together them I’m fine with it.
