I didn’t know Private Division planning to own any studios, I thought they were like Take-Two’s version of XGP.
Iirc, they tried acquiring the Kerbal Space Program developers. When they declined it seems like Take-Two/Private Divison nearly sabatoged them to the point of poaching both talent and the IP.
It was a whole thing.
That’s in line with the things Zenimax did with Human Head and Obsidian. Acquisition incoming! /s
Phil Spencer isn’t done yet. That much is clear. There are still potential acquisitions and other big moves in the works.
“I talked a little bit about some of the kind of genre and taste stuff and areas that I think we need to continue to invest in,” he continues. “Doesn’t mean we won’t invest in other stuff if the opportunity comes up… but there’s a lot of great conversations happening and I’m encouraged”.
Jrpg studios soon?
Yeah, the studio is called Atlus and is part of the Sega acquisition.
Se i see cloud and master chief together.
and also
“A lot of great conversations” doesn’t sound like they are planning to slow down
Bethesda didn’t just mean big names, but big sales and critical love. Skyrim has to date sold some 30 million copies. The ironically PS5-exclusive Deathloop is one of 2021’s highest-rated games.
These aren’t mass mainstream ‘social casual’ games like Candy Crush , Spencer admits, “but we’re going to go do that work as well.”
Hmmmm
Games like Candy Crush
Don’t know if it’s the article who wrote it to illustrate or Spencer who talked about Candy Crush though.
Obviously Turtle Rock since they had that Evolve mobile game.
Or SEGA with Sonic Dash!
WB is the way to go if they want mobile in addition to filling console holes.
I guess aside from Portkey I’m not aware of their other mobile efforts (outside of Playdemic being sold to EA).
I might have to look into this.
Behaviour also runs a mobile version of DBD although idk how popular it is. It does have some nice features I wish they’d migrate to console…
Just worth mentioning, though possibly redundant, Turtle Rock and Obsidian seem quite close. On Obsidian’s recent charity stream, they were giving away a number of Back4Blood codes and items provided directly from Turtle Rock which geographically is like right next to Obsidian if I’m not mistaken.
These inter-studio relationships could lend themselves to pushing acquisitions forward. I don’t doubt that before Double Fine took the bag from Microsoft, they called up Brian at InXile who had joined Xbox a year prior and was initially part of Double Fine’s Fig crowdsourcing initiative as a partner founder. Food for thought.
YOU GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW.
Xbox killed it with everything else this year, now it’s acquisition time
