He is continuing his E rated games message with some small alterations. I love how consistent he has been in messaging. But it should be treated as more of the same.
I changed my mind today. His comments yesterday were priming the pump to acquire Bungie and destiny. Big social community, casual appeal. Phil loves Destiny, he’s bringing it on board.
Bungie is not what I think of when I think casual.
Casual to me means thry want stuff like Fall Guy’s where a family can pick up and play for fun. Doesn’t require advanced tactics or high skill level, just fun.
I play none of those games, more like sims 4 a big truly casual game, no viokence or shared world either. A big bunch of gamers play the sims 4 or sim like games.
Hi Rez is an interesting one. They have notoriously struggled with bugs and polish. Smite and Paladins could both be significantly bigger with more resources. I think it’d be a very underrated acquisition.
For me that list sounds pretty casual. People that I know that own a console but aren’t that deep into gaming, are basically playing exactly this games.
COD is significantly different than those games because of how it’s treated in the marketplace. Everyone’s mom knows what cod is. People that don’t game know what cod is.
Phil related to those titles are things with broad casual and social appeal for a reason. He isn’t necessarily looking for some E rated thing like Nintendo has, just wants something with broad appeal and will hold a vast amount of the market.
Could it be similar to Nintendo, sure, but I also feel it’s unlikely given what’s out there. I think we need to look at other games with massive reach or potential for that.
