Interesting that Tencent is going after studios that had some relations with MS. I wonder if they will go after GSC too.
Also due to those investments Tencent is getting nice dividents. I wonder why MS does not do investments like this (purchasing stocks)
No - you flip the distribution story and have an immediate large scale distribution presence in Sweden for xbox. And freeze their original Sony distribution business, of course.
I suspect Tencent might go after them
Xbox going after Russian studios is very complicated due to conflict of interest in defence deals, and MS facing the brunt of Cozybear attacks.
They can relocate those devs and buy them under a proxy European studio though - like, maybe, Nordisk Games. Lol
MS has an investment arm that does things like purchasing stocks. I don’t think their Xbox m&a team is interested in buying stocks. They instead are apparently focused on clean buy-outs.
Possibly. Tencent also might just be looking for a good return if they expect Bloober’s stock to rise based on their next projects such as the rumored Silent Hill.
They may not be planning to sell Bloober stock. This is their standard Modus Operandi. Buy enough stock to command a board seat, and then in due time take over.
In a sense, they ‘take over’ without technically taking over.
Man, I just wish Tencent would back off.
The scary or mysterious part is that Epic has also been purchasing tech and a few studios too.
There is always this commentary about Tencent and Embracer maybe starting their own services. But Tencent’s game has been fairly public, imho - they will expand and convert their existing 40% shareholding of Epic to a full controlling ownership in time.
They already have a big presence in the pc market, if we view it from that angle.
It’s too bad that Tencent owns 5% of Paradox Interactive. I really like Paradox’s games and it’d be a shame if Tencent would end up swallowing the entire publisher.
I also think Paradox would be one of the most realistic publishers for MS to acquire, along with WB Games, but maybe that 5% is a problem for MS?
5% is basic but slightly large investment. Does not mean anything much, right now. Maybe, a foot in the door.
Look for 10% and higher - with Tencent.
Even Ubisoft has 5% from Tencent, I think.
So just a reminder that everyone is on the hunt for studios and spend money because it will be less worth/ studios more expensive in the future.
ooooh boy
Its disappointing that Microsoft hasn’t planted a flag yet in Poland.
They did with their cloud investment.
I mean game studios wise.
All of their grand strategy games would be pretty boring since China would have to win every time…
