Yes i agree but still they need to have the right game for them to make it good that why i think having CD try out Perfect Dark a 1st person game first and see if they can help make it good first.

While I don’t disagree with you (and have historically been a huge proponent of the merits of a WBIE acquisition) I think people kinda under-sell the merits of Take Two beyond Rockstar:

  • If they were to go out on the stage at E3 next year and have their “one more thing” be a fade to black, a Tarantino-eque voiceover monologue, fade in with “GTA VI - 2024 - Exclusively on Xbox, Game Pass and PC” then do a press release that Xbox has acquired Take Two, the internet would explode. You would get years of value out of something like that. Every time someone was making a next-gen console decision, they’d have to consider whether they wanted to play the next GTA. Every time someone considered becoming a Game Pass subscriber, “and GTA VI when it comes out” would factor into their decision. Those effects would be present from the day you made the announcement. Nothing, not even COD, has the sort of broad appeal of GTA. I’ve always been on the position that the success of Game Pass depends on a race to 50m subscribers. GTA is what gets you there.
  • 2K Sports would be an underrated add to the Game Pass portfolio. There’s especially a lot of exciting possibilities around bringing back NCAA Football 2k, now that the NCAA has pass the NIL rules.
  • Bioshock? That’s in the pipe. And it’s a Hall of Fame IP.
  • Civ and Xcom would be tremendous adds on the PC side.

Seems like they could have tried them on Indiana Jones and used Machine Games on Perfect Dark

I agree that just attaching their name to The Avengers takes away from their rep a little bit, but the single player campaign is miles ahead in that game than the multi component. Xbox is gonna need them to focus on the single player aspect of a game like perfect dark so my hopes are high.

There is absolutely no reason for T2 to sell Rockstar, GTA prints money and RDR is no slouch. Off these two games alone they will continue to generate tons of cash.

Guess they need studios to build the MGU

They need studios to feed their upcoming PSVR-2 niche.

I understand and agree, but I count Bloomberg with Dana Bass and friends as having among the top few news or hints for acquisitions.

Btw, that reply from Square was wishy washy. But as a company, I suppose, the safest option is to discredit the surface layer news story rather than focus on specifics.

This doesn’t even include the rapidly ramping up publishing division.

there is a lot of good indie studios, you have also maker of this game

while they are good isn’t just better continue make deals with them ?

The content play is not over. I had asked a question earlier about what acquisition would take them over 20bn year on year, and some of the answers and votes were possibly out of emotion rather than a business take.

So, what do they target with their next few acquisitions. A potentially new user base being added or an increase in the present user base.

  • Japanese creators of popular franchises for Western audiences
  • Japanese creators of popular franchises for a Japanese audience
  • Just more Japanese creators - not so popular ones are also ok
  • Korean creators for a western and Korean audience
  • Creators with established large user base like T2
  • Superhero creators like WB, Crystal Dyn, Eidos
  • Strategy game creators like Paradox
  • Platforming creators
  • metroidvania creators
  • mmo creators, or creators creating competitive large scale multiplayer games like LoL
  • fighter game creators, souls/rogue speacilists

even tho I voted for it, idk if I would have labeled them “Superhero creators” because that’s not really their appeal to me.

If anything is going to get their subscription service the most growth it’s going to be mobile. It’s also the hardest area imo.

Console gamers hate mobile devices. We all saw that Diablo “is this a joke” moment. But I taught programming to fifth grade kids all of which played Roblox on their mobile phones. No one grows up with game boys anymore.

New generation of kids learn to play on touch screens. Maybe a more native feel would improve Xbox Game Pass instead of just streaming console games. Idk how they will target this area but it’s going to be hard on the western front. I

Eastern audiences don’t have this issue. Smilegate is huge in mobile with Epic Seven. I don’t know, maybe have Smilegate leadership handle all things mobile for XGP.

In actual organic growth news, ZOS just opened another branch, in Montreal. Their third in 9 months.

Growth of existing studios is often overlooked as less ‘sexy’ than acquisitions, but MS has been doing a tonne of it, and has the same outcome of more games faster.
