If any one of SEGA , Square Enix or Capcom is agreeing to sell then MS should buy it . I would prefer Square Enix as their games are really loved by people now a days . Personally , I dont play Japanese games except FromSoftware’s .
Bigger than TES? Nah, Skyrim sales wise were likely all FFXIII games combined on the 7th generation, Lifetime sales on all platforms is likely around 30-40 million units. Microsoft knows they have the higher ground when it comes to power RPG brand now, Fallout and TES beats the competition with ease, plus they have newcomers with great start as Wasteland 3, The Outerworlds and likely Fable.
I vividly remember how after FFXIII release the game was such a mess that no one defended, it was the tipping point where no matter which platform (playstation, PC and Xbox) where all wanted Bioware, CDPR and Bethesda RPGs. And to this day, only FFXIV became their quality hit.
Think it’s a seller’s market. They know MS is trying to fill gaps in Gamepass, is all in on gaming, AND they know MS has the money so they aren’t going to budge unless the $$$ is highly favorable. I surmise if MS has the upper hand like we think, they’d have a couple of moves made by now beside Bethesda. Acquisitions, not partnerships.
Price matters for everyone, Tencent and Embracer aren’t known for the average joe and are completely new to the world market, as I’ve said above, they’re likely overpaying to get a fast track on the marketshare, Microsoft doesn’t need that.
What if Microsoft created an XGS Japan?
Tango, cyberconncet 2, white owls, Kojima, JP Studios, from software.
It could be easier than buying a publisher if none are available.
Kadokawa (Fromsoft) are not private and I would guess that White Owls are out because Swery defended some questionable stuff from his game. He apologized for it after the backlash but Microsoft are probably too PC to ignore it.
