Lol Shadow Run trilogy is coming to Nintendo Switch and it never came to Xbox. I swear you would think MS would want to lock up their own content.
One thing about that partnership is that the example of a person having connections with his previous studio. That make me kinda cautious regarding Capcom and Sony considering that Sony hired its former CEO or something.
Man, the amount of reach I’ve seen over this one announcement is insane.
I don’t see people making this same argument for Splash Damage, Certain Affinity, Creative Assembly, Relic, etc.
Heck, even teams like Double Eleven, Sperasoft are independent and do a lot of heavy lifting for Microsoft as support studios or more, yet they’re not getting this type of “they’re buying them!” noise.
I am firmly on the “they should buy them” train, after reading so much trash written about Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative by Xbox influencers.
The acquisition thread ‘reach’ is better than the ‘doom and gloom reach’ by the xbox influencers.
Well, one thing is the independent support studio, another thing is that using the relatively big studio from another publisher altogether. Only MS does that. With Sega for example and we know that Sega is coming home
To be fair, while it’s perfectly normal for a AAA game to make heavy use of work-for-hire studios to do the heavy lifting on the full development of a game, this announcement is noteworthy.
- It’s less usual for a single, big, well-known studio with experience of developing their own AAA games to be taken on as a single contractor.
- The studio in question used to be run by, and was largely built up by, the studio head of the Initiative.
- The parent company of the studio has a history of deeming (the objectively high) sales of their games as underperforming, the studio has just come off a massive budget licenced game that (in relative terms) flopped, and the parent has been rumoured to be unhappy with the entire western wing of its operation for a while now.
So speculation about this leading to an acquisition is not really ‘out there’. It is speculation, but so is 99.9999% of this thread. At least there is a solid logic thread here.
You were doing so well until the last two sentences. LOL
Agree with the overall post, though.
MS does something → Bad optics
MS does not do something → Bad optics
This means they should do whatever they want and should not listen to media .
MS plz buy take two and Sega.
Exactly!
All I’m saying is don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Been seeing a lot of assumptions being made.
It’s a unique situation that was pushed out in a random tweet late at night, the message could have been delivered in a better way but I have absolutely no concerns about the two studios working together or the game itself.
You don’t have to worry bout that cause i just want MS to get CD and Eidos and free them from having to make shit Marvel games cause i know getting all of SE is just a pipe dream.
What banner thing?
There’s no new aquisition rumours, leaks, or news in the past few days, no?
I’m case I missed anything. Don’t think there was any?
Thank you I’ve been saying this over and over too. Xbox needs people to make their games, look they just got the help of CD to work on Perfect Dark. There is only so many developers out there and they’re not grown like some people seem to think. At some point there is going to be a shortage of talent with everyone buying everyone up, so if MS bought Ubi with however many people they have would be perfect for them.
If MS bought Ubi with their 10k ish staff that would lower the costs of having to hire outside help which people don’t think about and all of it will be in house and easier to control as in leaks and stuff. Like I keep saying over and over like a broken record MS wants IP and staff because both of those are extremely important.
I actually like this idea, Daniel.
Buy Ubi - you don’t have to worry about staff to make a AAA production - ever!
Ubi has 19k staff.
No more Assassin’s Creed, cancel all projects and all 19k people can work on Grounded!
LOL - you’re the Inverse Ryan.
I wonder how fast a AAA game could be made if 19k people were 100% focused only on that title
