I know there are bigger fish to fry but on a smaller scale I hope Armature is in the discussion (for obvious reasons) but aside from that they seem like a team that’s going to evolve much like Asobo over time
I know people are not exactly fans of RDX but they are saying something significant from Xbox coming possibly within the next few weeks they speculated it could be an acquisition at the minimum its a decent announcement their source was the same one who told them about the ghost of tshima DLC expansion
In the next few weeks there will be Quakecon and Gamescom, I can also foretold there will be some significant news…anyway, we’ll see.
Absolutely let the speculation begin
I wrote a huge reply before realizing this argument is going way off topic lol.
First the “misleading part”. I didn’t mislead nothing. I thought for the most part people were up on current events. Since MH World came out two other Monster Hunter games have come out exclusively for Switch and has sold over a million copies. So believe me I wasn’t trying to mislead you. Sega and Capcom do the same. Yakuza after like 7 games just now arrives to Xbox the last Catherine game didn’t come even though the original was on the 360. Shin megami tensei hasn’t been on Xbox in years. The Virtual Fighter remake by Sega is PS5 timed exclusive. That’s all. Just trying to say SE behavior is not uncommon for japanese devs. For years everyone has known japanese devs skip Xbox. Sometimes mega big franchises. Sometimes small games. The added spotlight these games get from exclusivity might be enough incentive for these companies. It sure did work for FF7R.
That’s it. That’s all. I was just stating SE gets some weird back lash for doing something that was common knowledge. For years people have been saying if you like japanese games just get a PS. FF is pretty much top of the ladder when it comes to Japanese content whether or not it’s the most successful doesn’t matter. Just saying that if someone mentions a list of JRPG games FF will be on that list. With the success of FF7R it’s looking like the franchise is heading back on the right direction.
Now back to the Crytek comparison. Again I have no horse in this race. It’s just silly to think Crytek is more valuable than Square Enix. Square making exclusives for another company doesn’t make it any less valuable. This entire thing has been why are you guys devaluing SE when Capcom and Sega do the same. Bethesda had premade deals yet that didn’t negate their value.
Am I in crazy land? Like even if deals are in place I don’t see how you guys see Crytek > SE. Besides Hunt Showdown and the Cryengine Crytek has little going for it. Y’all say MS money can fix them but the same thing can be said for any other company. MS has like five other engines they can just form an engine team in house if they want and even then we already saw what a Cryengine spin off looks like, Amazon literally made Lumberyard off of the Cryengine.
Forget the long list of IP that comes with SE, forget that MS was already going to buy them back in the day but stopped when SE asked for money, what exactly does Crytek have that compares to the household name of Final Fantasy? Crysis? People don’t even say can it run Crysis anymore. Ryse? The game that got universally panned? Hunt Showdown? When have any of you guys last talked about the game?
I don’t know guys help me see the big picture. I am sure they could produce high visual products but SE with Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, FF, a bunch of JRPG studios just sounds like more valuable.
Anyways all that being said SE is the most unlikely of acquisitions in my eyes.
Most likely list
Crytek
Sega
SE/Capcom
Most valuable List
Capcom
Square Enix
Sega
Crytek
Crytek is the cheapest pick up that would be way more likely to happen compared to the dream acquisitions of the other three.
Armature will be great for xbox
Where is WBGames…? nah i remember now that the merger will finish on 2022 and the studios wont be on sale until that merger ends
I didn’t even consider them to be honest. Just threw up some Japanese devs cause people seemed to have an issue with them.
I do think WB is the most likely of all though. Whether or not they get them, MS is definitely in on any talks with check book in hand. The rest is whether or not WB decides to sell or someone else offers a an obscene number.
Idk if this thread can survive anymore expectations
Me either man I was just telling what I heard

@ProgStopper are you excite? Something’s coming to the table! Start the celebration planning…
And you’re missing the point where we say about how much of the output these companies do get released on the Xbox, almost all of Capcom, Sega, Konami and Bamco games are released on it, but half or more of Square games aren’t, and for such big company, it is the complete opposite of what they did on the 7th generation and compared to all other big companies. SE would be the backburner in the line if you got the rest of them interested in being acquired, why would I bother to acquire a company that has doing the reverse way instead of ones who have been working with me even in the toughest times?
Buying the company who gives you half of their games sounds better than buying one that gives you all of them to me.
See this is where you lose me. Like did Ninja Theory and Bethesda not do several exclusives with Sony before hand. Even if you feel that type of way how could you not acknowledge that SE has made Tomb Raider exclusive for Xbox. On top of that worked on bringing a ton of games to Game Pass day one.
There’s like 7 Yakuza games that never came to Xbox until now. A ton of Atlus games that have skipped Xbox including Catherine which was on the 360 but this time around skipped Xbox. I just… I don’t know man.
MS themselves were going to acquire SE even before they had content on Xbox back in the day. They acknowledged the content SE would bring to the table was sufficient enough for an acquisition. Yet people now a days don’t want to see that happen because *checks notes they have worked with other companies more than Xbox? Bungie was a Mac developer before MS showed up.
People would have cheered if MS acquired the Sunset Overdrive devs but because they have worked more with Sony they would be disqualified.
Again, i’ve said that i’m not against of a possible SE acquisition, but they have been going to the wrong way with Xbox, you keep saying about Yakuza and Atlus, yet, you forget about everything else from Sega that represents the majority of the games they release every year, these games get Xbox release, and now Yakuza is a multiplatform franchise, including its Judgment spin off, to the point of being more associated with Xbox now than Playstation. Atlus by the wind is almost sure to develop stuff for Xbox now.
Square on the other hand is making two FFs exclusive for Playstation and there’s no sign of FF7R on PC and Xbox even if the exclusivity went up four months ago, instead, they did an enhanced version for PS5 only. Not to mention Forspoken and NEO TWEWY, there’s only FF Origin to be released on Xbox and Guardians of Galaxy. SE made ROTR as a one year exclusive and now most of their stuff skips the console, what a nice deal eh? And wouldn’t surprise me if the GP games they got, which are great btw, were all they could get from the company, with exception of Outriders as a new release. If they were that supportive, they wouldn’t have stopped with KH Melody of Memory and DQ XIS, we would have seen those games who are skipping the Xbox on the console day one.
MS was about to acquire SE back in 99-00 when they were founding the Xbox division, until they decided to hike the price at the last minute. You have plenty of companies that supported you regularly since the beginning, then you have another one who will only support you if you pay for it, who do you think MS gonna focus on to acquire? Unless Square provides a unbeatable deal, they will likely focus on the others.
I don’t think kinship or loyalty between companies is much of a relevant metric, it’s more like who do you think would provide the most to your platforms. What you position here as a weakness is something I’ve commented on as a strength before, because an acquisition would prevent new exclusivity deals being signed, and eliminate future instances where games skip xbox even without deals. It would also mean there’s a back catalogue of games that skipped xbox in the past that you could port now.
Like, if Sega and Capcom are largely moving to a place (or already have moved to one) where they port everything, but Square Enix is still all about that exclusive deal life, then purchasing Square would result in the most new games going to Xbox, and the most number of competitive advantages for your competition eliminated.
Even if you still think it’s a bad buy because of the short term issues, I do hope that makes business sense to you.
Everyone I ever met that played it really enjoyed it. I certainly did. It was a 3/5 game, I wouldn’t deny that, but it had great potential and deserved a sequel.
It’s also a franchise that has only ever been on Xbox, and if it can be stewarded to meet its potential, then that is worth a lot more to the brand than buying a multiplatform franchise and announcing ‘it’s exclusive now’.
Yeah, SE has been an untrustworthy partner since before being SE in the first place, it’s almost incredible, lmao. The percentage of its catalague which skips Xbox is much bigger and significant (FF is bigger than Persona, expecially in the west) than anything else from other publishers, which usually skip Xbox for niche series nowadays. Imo the strategy should be marginalize them: make deals (or acquire) with everyone else until they are forced to recognize Xbox. Imo the current strategy of paying for their B tier stuff is wrong (old games in GP, Outriders itself was their B tier western game before Avengers bombed), in that way they’ll be happy as is it for the time being and nothing will fundamentally change, we are hearing hollow words concerning FF14 for years now, for example.
