That’s usually Sony marketed as well right? NBA 2K?
I hope you’re 100% right because any publisher Microsoft acquires is better for us since we no longer would have to buy the games and obviously, we all have our preferences and favorites in regards to who we would like to see Microsoft acquire.
I agree. I just think that the Bethesda deal made people expect the same level of acquisitions in the future which simply may never happen.
I didn’t think SF had sold less than Tekken, considering it’s older and it has like 50+ titles among mainline, spin-off, collections, etc…also for much more platforms, Tekken was PS exclusive until 6th gen, then 7th gen it landed on Xbox and only with T7 on pc and never on Nintendo.
Anyway, yeah, the main draw for WB was MK, biggest fighting franchise ever, also a transmedia IP on its own, moreover not directly tied to Warner Bros/DC like comics properties. Monolith also has some historic franchises like No One Lives Forever and F.E.A.R., but they are old and dead honestly.
Correct. So far its been the lone Outlier in the industry and in statistics what you usually do is ignore them lol.
The comparison is unfair
Insomniac is working on more than one project because they have two teams and the number of their employees are (double) the number of Rocksteady
And if the price of Rocksteady reaches up to 500 million without any titles , Believe me man Microsoft will pay this money without hesitation and they will walk out of the office happy
500 million is not a problem because Microsoft will recover this amount within hours or even minutes while they sign the acquisition papers. The problem is if there is an intention in the first place to sell the studio
Big companies don’t just spend money on things without thinking. If that was the case, MS would have acquired WB games when they were for sale last year.
Focus on what I said in my previous comment . And I will explain to you the difference between having a publisher and having one studio
There is a difference between owning an entire publisher that cost 4 B without ips and comes with other huge costs such as employee salaries, a publishing arm and a large marketing team, and a studio that has nothing but 250 employees. And ready to develop games without other complications
Studio prices have been inflated due to demand, companies are paying billions to get only one studio
- Embracer Group Paid 650 million for Mobile game developer (Easybrain)
- Embracer Group Paid 525 million for Saber Interactive
- Embracer Group Paid 450 million for Aspyr
Microsoft was about to pay 50 billion for Pinterest , And you think having a studio as talented like Rocksteady that cost 500 M bad idea ?
Microsoft will pay 500 million without hesitation , And they will celebrate many nights because they managed to get a great studio for a small amount
The problem is if there is an intention in the first place to sell the studio and not spending 500 million
Just to clarify, aspyr was apparently $100 million + $350 million in potential bonuses. Don’t think it changes the impact of your point though.
Valuations today are not the same as valuations in 2018.
Mobile games make a lot of money. In fact they make more money than console games. Supercell is literally the biggest acquisition in gaming, it was more expensive than Bethesda.
And 500 million for Saber is not bad. Saber works on games way more often than Rocksteady. The last Rocksteady game was Arkham Knight 6 years ago, Saber works on multiple games every year.
450 million for Aspyr looks bad when comparing to these other deals but considering that they are making KOTOR now it doesn’t sound like that bad of a deal.
Don’t get me wrong, Rocksteady is a good studio but they have no IP’s and they take way too long to develop games. 500 million for them sounds really bad.
I’m taking Rocksteady over Aspyr any day lol
To be fair to Rocksteady WB cancel some of the games they were working on so I think it comes down to bad management over at WB
Most likely
I still see plenty of options without going the route of a publisher too.
Which could potentially be an issue if Xbox is looking for a self-managing team (unless current leadership is more put together)
There’s no way take two is thinking of selling before GTA6 is even out. But, I don’t know shit.
I think at TGA is when they announce the Kojima Xbox Game the deal will probably be finalize by than.
TGS they announce they’ve purchased the country of Japan so that they can finally get their developers games on Xbox. (Atlus moves to Europe to avoid them)
I don’t have a ton of confidence in a Kojima announcement at TGA this year. Presumably they’d want to show… something (CG) alongside the announcement.
What are the chances that they already have something to go? I guess it’s possible something was created for the pitch, but yeah… even CG takes time and actually knowing what you’re making.
NO they don’t have to show a CGI just show a Logo like how GOW Ragnarok was first announce people will go batshit crazy over this news it will be the most talk about thing Kojima has a huge cult like following it will be huge if it happen.
