Sure that doesnt mean that we think they need to make a shift and suddenly prioritize mobile experiences. I dont know what saying that has to do with Satya’s words of commiting to Xbox at all other than reinforcing backing from the parent company.
Really we all know Microsoft is a trillion dollar company but in their core console market their own brand still needs to keep on growing and expanding before diverting to other stuff. Same logic with VR which Sony only tackled when they absolutely blew Xbox out of the water competition wise last gen.
When I mentioned Satya it was more of him giving Xbox more support IE money and support from MS themselves with teams and whatnot, nothing to do with a move to mobile.
Again with the Satya stuff, they can do both now they don’t need to sacrifice 1 thing for another anymore like previously because Xbox was underfunded. Buying Bethesda was Microsoft growing and expanding the core console market for them, don’t forget that and it was huge. They will invest and grow in anything that they feel is important, which seems like console, PC, cloud and seemingly mobile.
If you think them buying mobile studios or moving into that market isn’t focusing on the real issues then what do you think about cloud gaming because that’s even less of an important factor, Phil has even said he doesn’t expect it to replace console gaming, so in theory why bother with it right?
Pretty much what I’m saying is I get where you’re coming from but you have the mindset of Xbox One gen and it’s not the case anymore, they’re not shoehorned into a shoestring budget. This isn’t a Kinect 2.0 thing either where they lost focus, mobile gaming is bigger than console gaming and that’s just a hard fact.
Xbox will buy mobile studios imo because mobile is bigger than console and I think mobile needs purpose made games not xcloud native games. Just look at what Apple is doing to Game Pass streaming, they’re going to need dedicated games in the app store if they want them to succeed.
Yeah, if they can pull it without affecting their console/PC market then I’m completely OK for it.
IMO I don’t think that money alone can achieve that, time and focus are also needed.
are we sure that it’s even talking about mobile experiences?
it’s one thing to have a separate game made entirely and solely for mobile that will land outside of Gamepass and make an horizontal experience like Genshin impact (brrrrrrrr) that plays natively the same on pc, consoles and mobiles/tablets with the addition of xcloud
Jez article was not even for creating mobile games, but rather porting the UI and UX to xCloud games because many are a hassle to play on touch, while Minecraft Dungeons is the only one with a proper xCloud mobile control adaptation.
They just announced their intention to buy the company. After passing through every regulatory action then it’ll be bought and owned by Microsoft.
With those multi billion transactions it takes months. Could be even a year. It depends on the scale. For example WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc. merge is planned to be finalised in May.
