Sega and Xbox have literally had discussions though… so it’s not “nutty”. Ridiculous suggestions that have no basis, like Epic, are.
Now it is my turn to throw names: Microsoft is acquiring Amazon, New World coming to Gamepass day one.
Just saw someone on twitter speculating about WB again simply because of the publisher sale going on right now in the xbox store…which happens like every 3 months lol.
I agree take two and Epic are a little ridiculous, but I do firmly believe that most of the studios mentioned here are quite a bit more likely than Sega.
A small dream would come true
Epic is straight up impossible and not worth it. Take Two is super unlikely. Sega is plausible, they are relatively cheap and have the content that Phil wants(Japanese games and E Rated games).
It’s no different to a football forum. If it is clear your team isn’t active in the transfer market during a particular period, you start to play “what’s your dream signing?” and so on, just to fill the silence
To me, that is when you go engage other threads like the community one
That’s also my take on it.
I get that, but I feel Epic is the most outlandish one, and it seems like Epic is positioning themselves to be major player to acquire others
I understand entirely, I haven’t put forward a single acquisition suggestion myself (I’d like Konami for what it’s worth). I guess it comes down to what a forum is for: is it a news feed, or a pub table chat?
It’s also a public company, with a lot of shares tied up in Tencent.
Not a public company but it is 40% owned by tencent. Moot either way as I couldn’t see it happening.
I thought it was public due to Tencent owning 40%. My mistake. Epic is pretty much impossible to acquire in the short term, nor do I see the point of an Epic acquisition.
Yeah, they are super expensive, don’t release too many games, and most of their games are free to play, so it wouldn’t boost Gamepass subscriptions. I really see no point in acquiring Epic as Xbox can already use their most valuable asset, the Unreal Engine.
Epic have been rasing funds for their investments by selling off shares in the company. Tencent bought the 40% for $330m back in 2012. In the last year or so they’ve been two funding rounds that I can remember, one that had the company valued at $18bn and a second that valued them at about $28bn
I think the reason that Epic’s value is so inconsistent is that the grand majority of their current worth is tied to Fortnite. It will be interesting to see what course Epic will take in the future.
They also had early success in pushing into the green screen dome shooting for TV shows and movies. Once their competitors in the traditional CGI realm push into there then Epic’s value may decrease. To their credit, Epic haven’t been squandering their windfalls from Fortnite. They’ve been acquiring Middleware tools, making it more difficult for others to expand.
Their store has potential but still isn’t profitable, they need to really work on that
I think MS should pick up Certain Affinity, they’ve helped a lot on MS IP, 200+ staff studio and someone else could snap them up and then they could lose a good support studio.
Noticed they have upgraded their studio, obviously that means MS already has them /s
