Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Yeah but if Paradox is selling now and not Sega then you work with what you got now.

I don’t think MS would ever make an “impulse buy”, we are talking about billions and hundreds of employees.

Anyway, we will find soon, I doubt this Booty thing will be an acquisition.

They own a whole stack of franchises that consistently sell in the millions copies and have very high long term engagement. They’re not 5 million day one sellers but they don’t have to be because their development teams are tiny, less than 20 people.

Lean production + high frequency output + long term engagement + publishing back catalogue + opportunities to port games to console and mobile (they have already invested in both console and mobile porting studios) + World of Darkness IP + other miscellaneous published titles = current valuation.

The revenue multiplier for their current market cap is about 11 which is high but not insane for the current climate on videogames. They grew about 10% annually from 2016 to 2020, then in 2020 they grew something like 40% in revenue.

I think their slate is quite attractive to Microsoft, it’s just a question of if Microsoft wants to buy them or just continue to be a good partner with them. Their games routinely show up on Gamepass.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t any xbox game go to pc anyways? If so, I don’t really see the value in purchasing a pc publisher when any other would go to pc anyways

Think of it less in terms of which platform they’re playing on and more in terms of which genres you’re catering to. People play types of games, and you want to cater to as many types of people as you can, and one of those types of people are playing games that are predominantly or exclusively on PC.

Total War, Crusader Kings, League of Legends and so on are those types of games we’re talking about. Big audience, lots of money, not on console, and there are people who play only that game, or only that kind of game, or maybe occasionally branch out but that’s their bread and butter.

There are also things like Age of Empires that might some day come to console but would need to be changed (or force mouse usage) to have a good experience, as an example of Microsoft already catering to some audiences like that.

With MS still involved in multi media aspects for thier IP, the Halo TV series, Gears comic books etc. I think Nordisk would be a great pick up, they are involved in film production as well as owning devs like Avalanche, Mecury Steam. MS acquiring them allows them to get more involved in the multi media aspects of gaming

Isn’t Amazon doing a Fallout series too?

If Sony doesn’t end up acquiring Housemarque, I wish Microsoft would. Give them two teams. An AAA single player third person story driven team but without the roguelike elements and a smaller AA team for their isometric and 2D twin stick shooters. I want DINONATION damn it!!! I would be super thrilled and happy if this was to happen. :joy:

depends if Returnal do good or nah

isn’t just better to buy the studio from them ? it’s not like Nordisk is deep invested in gaming

BTW Avalanche have three studios, one of them is maker of second extension

I don’t think publishers like to sell studios to each other. If MS want them, they’ll have to get Nordisk. To be fair, reading about them theyd be a great get

The film production aspect of Nordisk could be used to create tv shows, animation for IP like ES, Doom, Sea of Thieves. MS now have serious franchises under thisr belt, and the potential in multi media is crazy.

i will say depends on the cost and what they ask for the whole thing(Nordisk)

it’s better to give triple or double studio value than buying it all, after all this is private Business and it’s easier to strike deal with them

and add these movies and shows to gp to replace gold value in ultimate ? on paper it sound good but i don’t think they want to touch any non-gaming media related stuff. this is different Business all together.

Its whether they want to get back into that, however Nordisk being in possession of film studios could come in handy for things like animation and mo cap

hmm is Pearl Abyss worth it ?

i mean Nordisk is not really big i mean look at their catalogue and quality of it and i don’t think they offer much in term of mo cap.

for me it’s not worth all of that just for one studio

too expensive for a few IPs. But an exclusive partnership and a gamepass deal is definitely worth it.

MS should look at indie Europe studios, i can’t believe KOCH media get 4A Games with IP(metro) for $40m and Wild flying hog with IPs(Shadow warrior and new ip Evil West) for $130M that is a steal if you ask me

yeah partnership and deals are better if they are too expensive
