I think Microsoft could acquire Take-Two.
I’m merely sharing some discussions from another forum cohort where they generally hear things before the rest of us do. Their information on acquisitions could be as invalid or valid as our own. They merely shared what they had been hearing.
Their usual forte is in other initiatives. Recently they absolutely nailed the Xbox Cloud Gaming area (Series X Blades, timings, iOS, PC web clients) and the Xbox / GamePass mobile apps. They don’t consider themselves an “insider”.
As with everything, take it as a basis for discussion and make up your own mind.
I merely thought the discussion here could use some refocusing from the “acquire everyone” to a “Who’s around 20ish” and “What 3 might be around/under 10ish each” and “Which 1 might be around/under 1ish”.
Good info, thanks.
So maybe $20bn is them. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
But where did that figure come from? Who said it?
Ubisoft games all move massive units and have like 10 established franchises that they are making consistent money off. Take-Two is worth all that for ONCE a decade Rockstar game and 2K? Lmao
Jim Ryan:
“Nurturing Creative Talent is Not as Simple as Throwing Money at it”
2021 Evaluations:
Valve: $12b
Ubisoft: $4.5b
Take 2: $20.1b
EA: $24b
Activision: $20b
Bungie: $2b
CD Projekt Red: $8.1+b
Square Enix: $5.9b
Sega: $4.4b
Konami: $5b
Bandai-Namco $6.7b
Nintendo: $95b
Embracer Group: $1.1b?
You forgot about se not me, their number 1 on my list…anyhowJeff Grub says the kojima deal i.s about closed to. So who.knows whats cooking over there.
Feel like $12bn for 30% of the vast majority of game sales on PC going forward is a very good price indeed.
Of course no guarantee that Steam would maintain its market dominance, but if well managed there’s no reason it shouldn’t.
Current valuations can be built around these. But being a private company there is premium which need to be paid depending upon how much the company could worth in sometime in the future.
So Itbcould only go North from here.
Where are these rumours coming from? Is this a Microsoft purchase rumour or a Xbox rumour?
Reordered your post descending by value.
So the thing to keep in mind with acquisitions is how much of a premium needs to be factored into the deal. Is 30% premium enough? Or with the studio arms-race is this now pushed up to 50%? Is the current owner struggling? Or does an acquisition seem extra enticing because of synergies so is a mere 25% premium enough?
Did anyone say where this rumor is from?

I really didn’t expect this to be taken as gospel, just something to drive reasonable discussions.
The company that owns wb games also owns DC ip rights. They can’t sell Lotr or hp but they could absolutely sell DC rights
$12B is to low. Valve also has some of most popular and earning F2P games out there. I can’t remember where I saw. A couple of years ago I thought there were leaked documents around profit for Steam/Vavle. Their quarterly profit was nuts.
Also Xbox would probably look to cut the 30% down to their 12% split.
What about Capcom?
Well it’s definitely driving several discussions.
Thanks
Or Koei Tecmo ? They could abandon DoA for a new Killer Instinct.
WB Games is interesting, who knows what the worth of individual studios (Rocksteady, Netherrealm, Monolith) would be if they divested them piecemeal?
However, it is interesting that the new company has pledged to put $20b per year towards new video content, selling off some of these gaming companies could help with that. I am not convinced that gaming is a real focus for them moving forward.
