Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

They don’t even have enough studios to pull it off and not only that all their games are SP meaning people will just cancel their sub once they finished the game.

There is a reason Microsoft says Tencent, Google, Amazon are their competitors. If PlayStation were to do a service like Gamepass model where you have to take a loss to eventually make a gain Chapter 11 would be in their future quickly. I do believe Sony will do Day & Date on PC soonish it just makes financial sense way to much money being left on the table.

This is off topic, I don’t think this is even slightly related to acquisitions and at this point is trolling, take it to a different thread.

The problem with this: Microsoft is using the Game Pass income to grow the service and not profitability. Sony is using their subscription income for profitability. Switching that is all but easy.

Well the window for that is short what with the onslaught of games coming . I will keep it in mind if I am having trouble in the Wasteland :+1:.

They should do all this to Netflix. Any day now…

Actually I wonder if it is due to lack of NPC at launch  So people had to talk to each other from the very beginning.

Sony doesn’t have enough popular IP’s to pull a Disney Plus. They don’t own a major IP the same way Disney owns Marvel, Lucasfilm and Fox. free to play Halo, Starfield, Forza Horizon 5 will be huge and get into that 30 million players + range like Elder Scrolls does. Sea of Thieves is probably approaching that number as well. Sony could easily lose Spiderman exclusivity if Xbox is leading this gen and subscription models take off. And they will its just a matter of time. Its already happening IMO.

Anecdotally most of the famous Sony’s IP - like IP Playstation is associated with like - Silent Hill, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil - are the third party IPs.

Sony is best known for moneyhatting third parties. They have 2 or 3 pretty big IPs and those are only in the last 10 years.

Moneyhats are about to become a little expensive, hope they’re ready for it.

Xbox invested heavily into tooling and development for console/pc which is why you won’t see them acquiring a support studio to port games to PC. Sony needs a porting studio since their development architecture isn’t optimal for PC.

On the surface it sounds nuts but in reality it is kind of true.

You can’t make a subscription service off of like 5 IPs

I think because well…MS has been developing on Windows since their foundation. Only Flight Sim is older than Windows for MS I think. MS is Windows.

Yup!

That’s where Xbox has significant head start.

One of the first games I remember was FH3

And as usual, it was buggy at launch

Playstation says that PS games will come to PC when time is right. And that’s true, launching a buggy game won’t make sense. Wait until it’s done

If you think Sony can just flip a switch and start a service like Game Pass at the scale that Microsoft has done then you’re delusional.

It takes billions of investment for content, marketing, and development. There won’t be anything at the level of Game Pass because now that MS is all in on gaming and is the established leader for this type of service, they aren’t going to give it away easily.

Pretty much. I dont think any of their games have the potential to reach 30 million + players except Spiderman. Which is a game IP they don’t own.

I think we are going to see some massive acquisitions from Xbox soon, the top leadership group has been prepping investors and users for the past year that they are all in on gaming.

Yeah I agree with this, I think it’ll be BIG names. Hopefully they sprinkle on some more stuff like Double Fine and Obsidian though too too help some devs hit the next level.
