Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Aside from Ratchet does Sony put out E rated games? I dont think its been an issue for them either and I dont see Naughty Dog or Santa Monica making one so I dont think its any concern for any internal studio to fill that.

Concrete Genie

Sackboy/Little Big Planet

MLB

Dreams

Just to name a few……

3 dead games and the now multiplatform MLB which is a sports game.

I remember Sony dropping PS5 news the day concrete genie dropped or released trailer :skull:. Talk about overshadowing the poor thing and Dreams never making it to PC is ridiculous and has been a colossal flop.

Having studios who diversify themselves is a huge bonus and is vital. Not every Arkane, ID, NT game should be about blood and violence. That only caters to one specific audience

I think the thought is (well, my thought at least) parents will sign up and stay subscribed to Game Pass if there id a wode variety of games that their kids can play.

I think you and I have very different definitions of the word dead my friend. Dreams is the only one I think really counts towards that, CG was just a small project. Sackboy was literally a launch title and seems to be doing well.:woman_shrugging:

Games like Slime Rancher Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Rocket League, PvZ, Spyro, Crash, Stardew Valley, etc. seem to do really well, so I’m not sure what’s with all the pushback against E games.

Even if it’s not my personal taste, a family friendly studio or two in the lineup would only help Game Passes lineup in the long term. Wouldn’t be any different from any other content service (just look at Netflix, Disney+, and HBO).

is there a parent out there that isn’t okay with their kid playing fortnite? idk if the market is big enough to concentrate on e-rated content aside from publishing.

Did somebody say… child friendly? I know just the acquisition.

I don’t see how my logic is flawed, but feel free to elaborate more. Microsoft has stated multiple times they have learned a lot from the Mojang acquisition and that is leaving studios “alone” and being there as a resource first and foremost. Saying they already enjoy too much freedom is pretty antithetical to Microsoft’s curreny vision with M&As. I have also mentioned multiple times now that Microsoft treats the Minecraft IP as a whole as a platform to reach the absolutely enormous audience out there. It doesn’t matter that Dungeons is a completely different type of game riding on the Minecraft name. The Minecraft brand and sheer scale is what warrants the multiplatform business decisions.

It is not comparable to ZeniMax/Bethesda titles post-acquisition when people would say stuff like “there’s money on the table” and MS ought to make Starfield multiplatform. Minecraft is in a different league of its own and is being treated as such with the IP, for good reason. That isn’t to say Xbox shouldn’t get some preferential treatment like with enhancements and raytracing as I touched on before.

They became cultural phenomenon on PC regardless of any console reach. And anyway, Roblox is looking to expand onto other platforms like PlayStation, and League of Legends is coming to console and is already out on mobile with Wild Rift. BECAUSE these IP are cultural phenomenon they want that to be on as many platforms as possible to reach the largest audience. League is similar to MC in terms of MAU. If Tencent came out with a console, I would be surprised if they made the console version of Wild Rift only available on their console instead of others, too.

… and now I realize you just are a fanboy and there’s no real point in having a conversation.

I have friends that have kept Game Pass solely because their kids enjoyed playing things like Zoo Tycoon and other random games like that. Kids are a big reason that people stay subbed to entertainment services. De

Krome Studios (Australian studio) made Viva Pinata: Party Animals back in the time but I don’t know how they’re doing nowadays.

Though when searching for family friendly content, you are probably looking for the one who will make the next Fall Guys game-like.

I mean, I’m not saying they shouldn’t add that content or even acquire studios that do that type of content. My thing is he’s been asked that question alot recently and the E-rated content thing has been said every time.

I just feel they still lack in a few areas and it would make more sense to mention those genres because in all likelihood that’s what someone following these interviews would be more interested in.

And to be clear I’m obviously not speaking for everyone or on the behalf of gamers, just my own logic of where they can gain some market-share (and personal bias)

They did wasteland remastered and the bards tale trilogy, so theyve been close to xbox recently. Theyve also been kickstarting Ty the tazmanian tiger remasters so they could definitely use funding.

Im not pushing back against It. I said E rated games wouldn’t be really an area of concern since this is a genre that I think is easy to cover with game pass deals. Dont think many xbox studios will pivot to E rated games for “diversity” or quota purposes.

There is one more angle – someone like a Velan studios for E-rated free to play MP.

But those are what they make and if they have an audience that likes the games then good? They dont have to cater to anyone thats the thing with game pass.

Also why is this an issue all of a sudden? Nobody asks Santa monica or Naughty Dog to not make mindless shooters or Nintendo to stop catering to the E market and make a mature third person shooter.

Xbox will get E rated content either via game pass deals or some other partnerships in addition to whatever random internal projects they make like Everwild or Grounded.

They peaked at 350+ staff in the 360 era with multiple teams doing licensed products and contract work. They almost went out of business, and shrunk down. They’ve slowly floated back up to ~50ish people now.

So agreed on this, Gamepass needs more casual, family friendly content, sim games mmos…theres just so many genres that are not involving violence, games that are creative etc.
