Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Think Crytek would be a great acquisition, the visual showcases they could make for the XSX would make my mind melt.

Not played Ryse but am open to the idea of a second. Played quite a lot of Hunt: Showdown which is an absolute banger and genuinely has one of the best soundtracks around.

I think it would also be great for Xbox to have access to the CryEngine.

I kinda hope it’s true, but not expecting much.

So I am not sure I get it. Is the rumored studio acquisition at e3 crytek or another studio?

Are you able to answer whether this is in relation to your tweet a few days ago where you said ‘dayum’?

Nobody really, supposedly its a studio like double fine or Inexile in terms with size that will come with some IP that is AA size. Jez has previously said he doesn’t think its Crytek but last night said that maybe he disregarded it too early.

So here we are, 200 posts later

No, but I can see Microsoft making it the only engine available to the public through GameStack, while still supporting other engines such as Unity.

You kind of have to get out of that mentality now. Microsoft does not judge each games success as a separate metric to greenlight games. Not anymore.

Ryse 2 would likely debut on a 50+m gamepass install base. Free game, good or bad will always find an audience with that many people.

All Microsoft cares about is “Did the subscribers go up again this year?” if the answers yes, these wheels keep turning.

I just wanted to know if there was merit to acquiring the IP opposed to starting from scratch my guy. Lol.

Only 193 for me. Thank you very much.

Well that was crazy lol

Thought these might be relevant

Sometimes I feel like people have incredibly myopic views of these things. Does Crytek pump out game after game, no. But their technology is beyond solid. There is a reason tech sites still use Crysis 3 in benchmarks.

In my opinion you have to view it, if it comes to pass, as MS building an internal technology staff, dedicated to gaming technology, to rival Sony’s ICE Team. Putting together the minds behind IdTech and Crytek, along with their other teams, would be nothing but a positive.

Not only that but everyone is trying to buy everyone so getting more tech like the engine is great. Gotta remember too they might have patented tech stuff which could be useful.

Can MS just buy Wargaming (world of tank devs) so they can get their buildings. I’ve already brought this up but I think Wargaming could be a good buy too;

  • 1750 staff
  • Private
  • Massive IP across PC/Console/Mobile

Not even AAA devs have buildings and offices like these.

Yeah but this is for an unannounced title and I doubt they’ll be working on another timed exclusive. This is the project typhoon game

It was just me being tongue in cheek :stuck_out_tongue:

I want to apologize for using “y’all” last night, I don’t think I’ve ever done so in my life and I fear the location I’ve been living in for a decade has started seeping into my lexicon… or I was just tired and grumpy from the mysterious pings.

Anyway… Ryse was a much better game than people give it credit for IMO and Crytek still has some great engineers and tech, maybe just needs some better management. No clue what’s going on, just wanted to defend Crytek from some of the myopic, reductive takes ;p
