Xbox 2025 Layoff Thread (crazy we need one...)

FM has gone in a weird direction since the 360 days. It just feels so boring. Super dry British narrator, showroom piano music when they used to have like dnb music. No music while racing. The forced practice laps were nuts to me, complete waste of the average players time. They need to get back to the 360 era and make the series fun again

The issue with Turn 10 is that their games are basically non existent due to licensing rights. There’s virtually 0 money coming to them from their backlog and with the latest FM being a flop.. just kinda really makes you vulnerable.

Yeah the silence really hit me when driving in it, to the point I had to put music on - usually with Horizon I love their radio stations or the game music and chatter keeps me amused in RPGs.

But the practice laps (rather than just qualifying) and the silence really were a culture shock having come back to it from playing FH5 again

That is true. Everything other than motorsport is delisted.

If this is true, it’ll be a well deserved break for Phil and a very well deserved promotion for Sarah

I just hope they don’t fall into another lull of no games if they are canceling unannounced projects. They might start doing more partnerships now.

I think something should have been done so that projects wouldn’t drag for years and then cancelled

I don’t work for the gaming industry, but if you work there as a manager you can probably see when a project is having development problems and need guidance

Losing a job sucks, I hope everyone gets a new job soon

If anything I could do with some slowing down, my backlog is getting insane!

This has been debunked by Jez.

My assumption, and this is just conjecture, is that is why Crystal Dynamics were brought in to try to right the ship. They gave it some time and it didnt work.

Again, just conjecture.

Even so, when Phil does decide to step down I really hope it is Sarah (and they do seem to be positioning her for it) as she’s a clear communicator, loves games and seems to be really good at her role

Ironically though, I think CD’s entire situation during the development of Perfect Dark led to its cancellation; remember, Initiative was a small team and CD was the lead, and while they were lead on development, they were sold by Square Enix to Embracer, and since then have experienced several rounds of layoffs as well.

I don’t know that you can do that, Games today just tend to take a long time. look at GTA, and Cyberpunk 2077.

Im mean…technically speaking that prediction about Phil’s retirment would be true no matter what. Lol.

Phil is in his 50’s. He has been at MS for over 30 years. His retirement will, in fact, come at some point after the next xbox is launched. What an incredible prediction!

I tried to see if it was gravy mentioned, but I didn’t see it: Compulsion was also hit by layoffs.

What is this gravy thing and why are you doing it.

Thank the gods someone else asked… I just thought I was way too old and this is some new slang.

Just saying as Phil is being used as the target for all this. Sarah clearly being mainly hardware is clear of this even though she’s been dragged as well. I imagine Laura will be out to say I told you so.
